Note: the same people who are cool with Trump’s intimate connection to the most notorious child sex traffickers in recent memory think that seeking treatment for mental health issues is wrong, bad, disqualifying, or scandalous. It’s a lie, but even if it wasn’t, it shouldn’t be stigmatized.

Ukraine is very special. They had a constitutional democracy in the 1700s before the US revolution and some of our founding fathers studied their system before helping to draft ours. This was before Russia conquered them, before the Soviet Union, etc.

Do you know how hard it is to lose the war if you're the United States? It's about as unlikely as bankrupting a casino.

Hybrid warfare looks like this (in part) Serious question: do they teach this stuff in high school social studies classes? Or history classes? This is basic acknowledge and everybody should have it.

Super good (and very long, but just listen to the first part if you don't have the time for the whole thing) discussion explaining the whole AI hack into Hugging Face deception conspiracy thing. In plain language, easy for non-techies to understand. youtu.be/qDzg-xvkeXw?...

The administration keeps telling us that ICE is in our cities to make us all feel safe, but if they're goons in plainclothes bum rushing vehicles with guns and pounding on the windows, how exactly does that make anyone feel safe?

Always That techno-adaptation time-gap, right? I recall learning it took about a century to have people use printing presses widely. Some in power feared literacy among common people I think. 100 years. Welcome to our lifetimes 😢

My administrative tasks are done within the zone of Atty client privilege usually, this means that sometimes my strategy decisions are visible in my billing records. I’m really surprised that some of my colleagues haven’t thought about this.

In conclusion, I do not want human-made word or art things to be created by software designed by people who built spellcheck. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. (Please attribute any typos that I did not catch to be the work of said spellcheck.) end/10

But I myself cannot get past the difficulty in keeping materials confidential. And so I am resisting use of AI in my profession. For now at least. Also: data centers, noise pollution, water usage. Why do so many of my colleagues ignore these problems? Are they all really that lazy? /9

Isn’t that a violation of our non-disclosure agreements or protective orders? I can see the benefit of AI for new lawyers who know nothing about a subject matter, who want to just get a handle on the universe of law, to guide them for more pinpointed legal research. /8

Maybe because I’m a close news reader, I don’t believe the companies can do that. I am very curious to hear from lawyers who have AI read confidential facts within their work. Why do you think the material AI is absorbing to give you an analysis isn’t stored somewhere? /7

SparkleTea @sparkletea.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I personally stay away from it because I cannot have the AI review my clients’ confidential material. When I bring this up to colleagues, they give me a blank look. They think the company is able to review and access the material but still keep it confidential. /6

There is an enormous pressure in the legal industry to incorporate AI into administrative tasks like billing, and summarizing documents we review. There is little, not enough, discussion about the loss of nuance. More people are aware of errors in AI hallucinations. /5

So I look at AI as the tech people thinking they know everything. Born out of the way that coding makes them think, and the speed at which their industry makes them move. I’m trying not to throw the baby out with bathwater. (Again: spellcheck just wrote “through” and I had to change it.) /4

I can see that AI has its place in the tech coding world. My husband is a software designer. I see our difference in the way we use language; often when we are disagreeing it comes down to the definitions. He may not consider the multiple definitions that I, as a lawyer, consider every day. /3

Example 2: fucking spellcheck. I don’t think the software is good with nuance and metaphor. In fact I had to fucking correct spellcheck right now because it typed “new ones“ instead of nuance. /2

I think AI may be good for things like coding, using words with one and only one meaning, but it pretty much sucks for things involving human nature. Example 1: comparing the Wordle bot’s description of the best guess at each step, compared to my actual guesses. Usually its advice sucks. 1/

Yep, learned how to drive it as I drove it off the lot. It was a rite of passage and common sight to see new drivers stalling in the middle of an intersection. But everyone was patient because we'd all been there. Now it's natural theft deterrence. Anyone who can drive one is too old to steal one.

At NYT, Ken Vogel writes about 2 Trump advisors traveling to #Srpska (the Serbian sliver of Bosnia-Herzegovina) to help the pro-Russian government run its campaign. At the same time, Mike Flynn happens to be in Srpska to pimp his propaganda film. (Funnily, both Vogel & Flynn have blocked me on X).
