I am absurdly delighted by the addition of "buddies" to Claude Code. On my work account, I got a "wise duck" and on my personal account I got a "sarcastic owl." dev.to/damon_bb9e4b...

Seen on my walk this morning in Portland
Red cloth draped over a white concrete wall. Black calligraphy on the cloth reads "Fascism is bound to lose; Fight back; Fascism is bound to lose."

Hey Marvel, is everything okay?
Three recent Marvel comic book cover: Moon Knight, One World Under Doom, and Hulk, all showing weird body horror face tearing imagery.

Something went very wrong with this email newsletter 😂
Screenshot of an email newsletter where the final paragraph has an incredibly large font size, to the point where not even a full word will fit on a line, and all the characters are overlapped to the point where they're barely readable.

Using a workflow to set a repeating message in a Slack channel might feel like overkill compared to just `/remind`, but now my daily standup thread has Paul Rudd from the Celeryman sketch, so I'm sold.
An automated slack message titled "Daily Standup Reminder." The avatar on the message is a photo of Paul Rudd smiling in a shirt and tie, holding a cup of coffee, from a strange video where he generates videos of himself dancing. A little hint of subversion to spice up your work day!

I can't stop laughing at this GoodReads chart showing books I read by publication year. I'd bet this was a lot more useful before I read the Odyssey and Iliad last year.
A chart showing books read by publication year. The x-axis shows the "read in" date, from 2016 through 2024, and the y-axis shows the "published in" date from -1000 to 2500. All dots on the graph but two are clustered near the year 2000 for publication date, with two dots between -500 and -1000 representing the Odyssey and Iliad.

🎉 In 2024, I resolved to take writing more seriously, and set a goal of writing 100,000 words of short fiction. As of this morning, I achieved my goal! If you're not used to thinking in word counts, that's roughly 400 pages! (Before you ask, I write under a pen name that I will not be sharing.)

I don't live in Michigan, but the "I voted" stickers you get in Oregon are BORING, and voting is cool #IVoted #HarrisObviously

✅🏃🏻 Couch to 5K complete! #c25k Today I ran 30min straight! A few months ago. I couldn't run more than 60 seconds. Now, by the end, it felt like my body was going to fall apart like the Bluesmobile, but I didn't stop! Thanks to everyone who liked or commented encouragement, it was super helpful!
Scott, out of breath, glasses fogged up, but still grinning at the end of his 30-minute run.

New Harris poster from Obey Giant! obeygiant.com?id=93721
A campaign poster for Kamala Harris by Shepard Fairey in the style of his Obey Giant artwork. Harris is rendered in a posterized style, entirely in shades of blue except for her red lips. She is looking up and to the right, and the word "FORWARD" is in a bold blue font at the bottom.

Recently I turned my personal site homepage into a D&D-style character sheet, and it makes me happy every time I see it. spaceninja.com
Screenshot of my homepage, styled like a D&D character sheet. There's a photo of me rendered in half-tone, like a poor photocopy. The text is filled out with blue ink. Under "class and level" I'm listed as a Level 23 Front-End Web Developer and a Level 14 Dungeon Master. My top attribute is NERD, and my top skills are storytelling, writing, and web standards.

Releasing an updated version of an npm package was one of my least favorite tasks because it was different in every project. So I took the time to learn how to do it properly, and I hope it helps you too! youtu.be/Vi4gcv2H9jQ

Surprising Facts about New #CSS Selectors: I set out to learn a bit about how CSS nesting works, especially the new `&` selector, and I ended up on a deep dive into the `:is()` selector and its siblings. cloudfour.com/thinks/surpr...
Cartoon word balloons showing the new selectors — is, not, has, where, & — each with a question mark, implying confusion about them.

Today in my inbox. (No, I have no idea who this woman is, how I got on her mailing list, or where Dana Point is)
Poorly photoshopped flier inviting the read to "Join us in the great Dana Point Turkey Trot Bar Crawl." A woman wearing a terrible turkey costume and sunglasses stands near the headline. Details for a bar crawl proceeding to four destinations, presumably in Dana Point follow. At the bottom is a photo of a blonde realtor, Kristal, who is, I guess, inviting us to her bar crawl in the hopes of selling us a house?
