I might have written a lil' something on substack to try and see if I have any writerly inclinations. In fact I do not, the posting part is so uncomfortable I feel naked, never again. I salute every writer for their courage

The nights were so clear the past few days, I could see the stars so perfectly. Especially the Orion belt . I took my binoculars and watched the moon, and then I turned to the stars and saw so many. I really loved this short period of warm weather that allowed me to observe the night sky.

I've been doing an analysis on Late Neolithic assemblage from northern Croatia, but almost all of the lithic pieces are covered with hard, impossible-to-remove amorphous lumps. Does anyone have similar experiences? How can I remove it without damaging the pieces? #lithicanalysis #helpneeded

Hubble Jupiter images in the UV suggest polar hazes are stirred by a vortex created by mag field interactions with the ionosphere and Jupiter's moon Io! A cool new UV view of this giant planet (image credit: T. Tsubota & M. Wong, UC Berkeley) See links in next comment for details . . .
Weirdly-colored image of Jupiter on a black background. The Hubble data were taken at ultraviolet wavelengths, hence the planet is shown in false colors, with bands of pale blue, white, and lavender. The Great Red Spot appears as a dark royal blue spot. The southern pole is swathed in haze colored dark orange and crimson colors, with a reddish oval vortex visible. If you were on Saturn, you’d quickly learn how reflective the rings are… The rings reflect sunlight and illuminate the night side. Instead of moonshine, it’s Ringshine!

I adore the idea that Neanderthals were among the first avocational paleontologists, collecting Cretaceous mollusks, & bringing them home to show off to their family & friends. 🧪🪨🐚

Kate knows how much I love marine animals, so she made octopuses, jellyfish and one plesiosaurus for me. They always fill me with warm fuzzies when I look at them.
Colorful crochet jellyfish with big black eyes, resting on my palm. It has intertwined blue, green, purple, gray and pink colors. Look slightly more like an octopus with the tentacles, but that's why I adore itA blue crochet octopus the size of a big grapefruit sitting on my palm. It has big black eyes and its tentacles are curled inward towards its headA blue green crochet plesiosaurus with black horizontal stripes, covering its back, short tail and long neck. I'm holding it in my left hand

TODAY’S NEW HUBBLE IMAGE SHOWS AN EDGE-ON VIEW OF SPIRAL GALAXY UGC 10043 WHICH IS 150 MILLION LIGHT-YEARS AWAY!!
A spiral galaxy seen directly from the side, such that its disk looks like a narrow diagonal band across the image. A band of dark dust covers the disk in the center most of the way out to the ends, and the disk glows around that. In the center of the galaxy, a whitish circle of light bulges out above and below the disk. Each end of the disk curves slightly. The background is black and mostly empty.

This figurine carved from mammoth ivory is about 40,000 years old (Hohle Fels, Germany). Neanderthals might still have been around when it was made. There is no head, just an eyelet, presumably for suspension...Photo: H. Jensen. © Universität Tübingen

Hi, I'm Kristina and I was preparing to enrol to study archaeology. But my health declined and that's off the table permanently. Instead, I'm on here trying to learn everything from archaeologists, paleontologists, astronomers and marine biologists. Hi there!
