Great #COSPAR2026 conference week in (hot) Florence, Italy, with 2 invited talks by Emma Davies and Christian Möstl, on the observations of #solarstorms between the Sun and Earth, their large scale magnetic structure, which we need to understand for better forecasts, and future @esa.int missions!

It was such a pleasure participating in my first ISSI workshop on multi-spacecraft particle observations 🛰️ So many wonderful people and discussions - and it's really true, there's no other environment quite like it! 💫

While we are still waiting for the Aug 30 #solarstorm to arrive at Earth - a later arrival means diminishing chances for #aurora in Europe but better chances for North America - a new submitted paper lead by Emma Davies @spacedavies.bsky.social is already featured at the @newscientist.com (paywall).

Spacecraft used to forecast solar storm 15 hours before it hit Earth
The Solar Orbiter spacecraft sometimes lies directly between the sun and Earth, making it ideally placed to analyse powerful solar storms that could damage electronic systems on our planet

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the 10-11 May 2024 geomagnetic superstorm! Our paper in @agu.org Space Weather led by Eva Weiler demonstrates the solar source of 5 interacting #solarstorms and the possibility to better predict such events with sub-L1 monitors in the future. 🧵👇 doi.org/10.1029/2024...

Great new review by Nada Al-Haddad and Noé Lugaz on a more realistic view on how magnetic field ropes inside solar storms look like, synthesizing many different studies of the past decades. More deformation, less twist, but still a lot to learn! ☀️ open access 👇 link.springer.com/article/10.1...
