People are asking for Carr but I’m skeptical that actually fixes it this year. Maybe it helps for next. But the problems right now are systemic. They f’d up the season plan. They have to hope to salvage it during the bye. I’m not confident

Past Michigan offenses have been bad, but at least somewhat bad within reason. Either due to talent issues, youth, transitioning offensive styles, whatever. It’s not that this O has no issues, it does, including at QB. But the scheme and plan has made it all so, so much worse. No excuse for it

Worst, for all the off-season talk of how distracted Sharrone was and how now it will be better, this is an offense that actually looks disorganized. From season plan, to on field execution. Soon as they get an abnormal look it crumbles, which is why it looked ok vs Iowa (except RZ) and no one else

What are they good at? I can’t really tell you. They prioritized things they still aren’t good at, prioritized to fat of a menu (for a team that came from a fat menu O), can’t really sequence anything, and can’t really build off anything. So you have all this talent and a bad O

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
They haven’t built an O. Beck blew up what worked, planned on being to dominate with run diversity, and now is playing 6 OL 1/3 of snaps. He planned on Q run reads being the answer that unlocked things and now despite better pass pro they have no drop back pass and no downhill RB run for PAP threat
1302
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The plan was fucked, and the foundation they could hang their hat on is in the rear view and doesn’t come back over night. They favored improving the Q run game over improving the offense. They have RBs and an OL well equipped to go down hill and they only do it with the QB.
1241
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Then they came in with a season plan I guess to run every gap scheme in the book after getting lighter across the OL. Add a bunch of horizontal action for the RBs to it with reads, rely on drop back passing and a bunch of rhino shit from spread that isn’t forcing an overreaction to make it worth it
1221
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
But they are bad. They had a foundation of power football, counter and IZ with a mix of other gap schemes and OZ as changeups. They needed to fix pass pro and add elements of PAP to the downhill scheme. They could benefit but adding elements of Q run and Q run read and RPO to build a more robust O

The only position group noticeably worse is TE and Klein was injured half of last year and somehow they are noticeably worse. Conclusion here is that this is enough talent to be good against defenses outside the top 15ish and probably not good enough against better defenses, but shouldn’t be bad

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
You can pin some on Bryce, but in my opinion he’s actually been solid to good in run reads, and while he has clear limitations on his ability to read coverage, also has clear strengths with both his arm and legs. The issues aren’t all that different than last year

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Ok, Michigan rant. Go ahead and put in the paper that I am mad. This is not a low talent O. They have 2 All-B1G caliber WRs. A draftable RB and a back up that while young has clear athletic ability/ talent. An OL that even with injuries probably has more talent than LY and is pass protecting better

TE wide open on 4th and 5 and Bryce is panicking. Footwork all over the place, sped up, throws it OOB. There are very clear ways on tape of how you defend this offense

Just letting 30 seconds run off the clock instead of using your second timeout. Not even your last TO. What we doing here fellas?

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Maybe my most frustrating thing with this so is they rarely just try to punch a D in the mouth. It’s what they did last year successfully with mostly the same guys. Now it’s mostly out and when things go sideways they have nothing they do confidently

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
It just overall feels like they are forcing a bunch of reads on the O. And BU actually has executed reads mostly well. But it’s resulting in those bad horizontal runs, RBs that are hesitant, and causing the whole offense to kind of play with feet in the sand.
190
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Beck isn’t the only one to run this, so I’m not saying this is some exotic call that Beck just airballed. But given BU’s last few drives, you are risking getting an unblocked on the face. On pure run you give and that edge is out of the play
180
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Part of problem with split zone on RPO is exactly what happened there. You aren’t locked on the edge, so if they come straight up field they can hit QB. Either BU needs to abort the mesh point or abort the read there, but this can also be protected keeping the TE weak or locking with the backside T

Might blame the RB a little here as he struggles getting through the wash, delaying his route as well
020
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Hard PAP, RB is supposed to run the rail. Sometimes they hit that rail but it’s rare, probably 80% of the time it goes to the TE delay. But you can see the spacing here isn’t right because the TE doesn’t delay, and his flow invites the LB to flow right under the throw bsky.app/profile/brya...

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Minnesota called the TE delay there. It’s a lot like Leak, with the RB typically running a Go route typically to clear out the space for the delayed under from the TE. Think TE ran his route too quick and brought the coverage toward the RB

Michigan offense is two things: 1) Very efficient (but not explosive) when on schedule; 2) terrible once off schedule. This is why this O completely bogs down with every penalty or tackle for loss. Obviously no offense likes being off schedule, but Michigan is at the extremes

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Called a timeout so he could run same side Duo from gun on 3rd and 2… what a time to be alone
1110
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Minnesota has been almost all counter footwork from under center. Pairing it with duo blocking or counter blocking. Eventually they’re going to hit with a weakside zone run trying to catch the LBs napping

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
They love the horizontal RB run game because it pairs well with the Q run schemes they prefer but at some point the horizontal element is so bad that you’re better off just having Q run and using the RB as an extra blocker. They aren’t getting anything off the read

Correction bad ref luck combined with a bunch of dumb controllable penalties that they take
0140
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I don’t really believe in ref conspiracy stuff. I don’t think refs are out to get Michigan. But man, since the WMU game they’ve had really bad ref luck. That PI call wasn’t anywhere close to catchable and also wasn’t PI

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I don’t love going gap scheme on 3rd and short with a presnap indicator of when you’re going to snap the ball. It’s how you get safeties shooting gaps because it’s a down they’re willing to play down hill on

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Yeah Bryce shouldn’t jump on that sneak. But calling a sneak on a full 4th and 1 there when you aren’t great at it is also a bad call. Compounding issues. Game Michigan should be up probably 10 points

You still see that the O isn’t executing all the scheme to where you’d like. It’s a thick book. The things they are comfortable with, like that 3rd down screen, can run into issues when you go to the well too often. Edge did a good job peeling as soon as he felt it

Bryce being way more instinctual today. Hasn’t been great all the time, but can tell getting him on the move, letting him be an athlete, bring down some of the opportunities to get into his own head have helped the offense overall.

Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Yeah and honestly, 90% of the time they just expect the Q to keep, to make it a cheap install. Obviously hurts there (lack of reps also on the RB’s path)
030
Space Coyote @spacecoyote.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Man is typically better against inaccurate throwers. Michigan D also fast and their paths way more disciplined than last years. I still think some offenses will be able to beef up, but D showing some good stuff today

Bryce does carry the ball loose this is just what happens when you can’t get hit in practice. Nothing fixes fumbling like reps getting hit.

Speed option one of the better 3rd and pass run games against teams that do a lot of exotics. Think the edge’s path upfield but onto BU quick and a little bit of poor pitch relation (can be tricky from sidecar) made it difficult

Two things: 1) This was always the way for Iowa, just surprised it took this long to get there 2) They got the FB lined up like a wing presnap before the motion and for that alone I’m a little bit in love.
