"The government hopes that the threat of a tax increase will incentivise these generators to make the voluntary switch to fixed-price contracts, which would not be taxed in this way" ? (I don't pay for the FT). www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

No. The "only paying users" can accurately be sourced as an example of the current behaviour of x.com/@grok . When this public account is asked for image editing, it does demand payment. The reporting error is that other Groks leave it free, including private Grok inside X the everything app.

Nice to see an update on aaronfreed.github.io :-) Still loving the Eternal X soundtrack. aaronfreed.github.io/soundtracks....
my work for the company focuses on facilitating more effective communication between neurodivergents and neurotypicals ...
Beyond that, amateur game development (Eternal X, Tempus Irae Redux, etc.), music creation and (re)mastering, and writing consume much of my spare time.

Good instinct to ask "did it actually get the right values & citation", yeah. Wrong test case for the second question. Web search already reverses md5("azerty"); ChatGPT already had web search. A better test case is md5("azertq") = 049a1794fc9d231b66ce0df382f13fd8 , which bing.com does not know.
bing.com (search engine attached to ChatGPT) search for the MD5 hash ab4f.... The first result is an MD5 database page, identifying the input "azerty".

When the IMF asks if you were perhaps a little hasty with the cuts... Simon would agree something was wrong :-). mainlymacro.blogspot.com/2025/06/the-...
What they do comment on is how what happened in March might be avoided in the future. Reeves has sensibly committed to just having a tax changing budget in the Autumn, but the OBR is legally obliged to do two forecasts a year. Unfortunately, Reeves and the Treasury believe that each forecast has to show the government meeting its fiscal rules. After the Autumn budget those rules were only just met, so that meant that the OBR’s March forecast had a good chance of showing the government breaking its rules. Reeves decided, wrongly in my view, to make disability payments the residual item of spending that would adjust to make sure the rules held. The IMF mentions some ways of avoiding what happened in March happening again. I can interpret them as involving three possibilities. The first is to formalise this grown up policy. The OBR could still produce two forecasts each year, but in March they would omit their final chapter on assessing whether the fiscal rules were met. Instead the Chancellor would simply commit to making the necessary policy adjustments in the Autumn. The second option is to get the OBR to forecast just once a year, to coincide with the Autumn budget. A third possibility mentioned by the IMF involves “de-emphasizing point estimates of headroom in OBR assessments of rule compliance”.

> the current approach to prevention is “through the levy and not through regulation.” Yeah, tax should be part of it & a rise is understandable right now. But also this is supposed to be a government that's happy to use regulation to achieve its goals, and this should be an important goal.
The Committee says “we do not see how OHID can effectively develop a strategy to prevent gambling-related harms without considering the regulation of advertising and broader commercial practices of the sector.”

The letter states that, “regulation should reflect the fact that some forms of gambling are more harmful than others, taking a risk-based approach that subjects the most addictive and dangerous products to tighter control. This should happen alongside regulation that focuses on protecting vulnerable people.”

Do you often call women wh*res in public? Most frequently for powerful women, or for powerful men? Is it a weapon used more by people who support women's power and equality, or by the enemy?

Ask yourself the three things you must always ask yourself before you say anything. 1) Does this need to be said 2) “Does this need to be said by me? 3) Does this need to be said by me now?

Does it seem strange to you that the "summary" introduces facts which are not listed in the detailed paragraphs?
Diversity in clinical trials

Summary:

* The initial AstraZeneca trials included a lower than desirable number of elderly people, particularly given the emphasis on protection of severe Covid-19, more common in older people. This led to some criticism about the potential efficacy of this vaccine in older populations, and likely encouraged some decision-makers in Europe to prioritise its use for middle-aged people.

Higher deaths / severe adverse effects in older volunteers during one vaccine trial would have been bad, sure. During the first EUA rollout globally? Dire.
4.21. Therefore, decisions on eligibility criteria for participants when designing a trial are typically based on a trade-off between including populations representative of those to be treated/vaccinated and excluding those at high risk of serious adverse effects. As far as I know, it is the responsibility of the trial sponsor to decide on these criteria

However, we have been cautioning investors for some time that US shares are expensive, or ‘overvalued’. This is partly due to developments in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which have created excitement and helped propel US valuations7 to levels not seen since the dot-com bubble – and its subsequent burst – in the late 1990s and early 2000s8.

We think it could take many years to realise the full potential of AI. While substantial benefits appear likely, a meaningful risk of disappointment remains and so investors should try to ignore the “hype” and avoid jumping on the bandwagon.

Q: "if that's true, then why don't employees come out and say their employer is wrong" A: someone who does that is not going to be an employee any more. But people don't want to understand it, so that doesn't get amplified, and the targetted harassment does. bsky.app/profile/esqu...
that violated the letter of the law? Even as we agreed that the posts contravened the spirit of the company’s policies, Raichik’s carefully constructed posts stopped short of clearly breaking the Twitter rules. I was encouraged by company executives to prioritize a fair application of the policies, and not assign subjective intent to Raichik’s actions. Doing so, they worried, would lead to a snowballing application of Twitter’s rules to borderline content—and, ultimately, to the very censorship we claimed to stand against. My team’s recommendation to ban Raichik was overruled.

Absolutely. There is some sort of opt-in heuristic spam filter there. I don't know how harsh it is, I just saw a big account that moved to Mastodon complained about not having an equivalent.
Quality filter, when turned on, filters lower-quality content from your notifications, for example, duplicate posts or content that appears to be automated — it does not filter notifications from people you follow or accounts you’ve recently interacted with. You have the option to turn this on or off in your notifications settings. (Instructions listed below.)
