Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Man, by "now I can stop thinking about it" I didn't intend that to be "totally forget this idea." I still feel like there's something here, but man I've got 0 ideas on how to make this into a fun idea. 000
Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 23/09/2025I've learned so many new concepts in the years I've been studying and still feel like I know nothing. I feel there's a great disconnect between experienced and inexperienced game devs. Like adults forgetting what childhood is like, then failing to see why a child doesn't understand life. 010

Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 03/09/2025Do you ever have this wild rush of inspiration for the loose concept of an idea, spend hours cranking out code for it, only to realize you have completely forgotten what the original idea even is because you spent so much time building a feature? The world exists, but for what? 110

The ceiling light here is being aimed by editing a single component of its basis, and the treasure light is just being squashed vertically. #GodotEngine #gamedev #indiedev 1059092
Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 09/04/2025I do want to add to this that Gnomes is a 10/10 tower defense game. Best I've played in a while. Loved TD's since the flash era but this is the first truly refreshing change of pace the genre has needed. There's so much more strategy and planning required, yet it's still a simple game. 011

Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 09/04/2025I just need to stick with my Godot projects since I already know it, but something compels me to learn Rust and try using it for game development. I've been resisting the urge, but seeing 'Gnomes' was made with Rust has totally reignited that spark of desire. 3122

Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 21/12/2024It's taken so long but I finally feel like I have a real asset on my hands. Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Not doubting you but I'm still not seeing how that would simplify the task. If you have enum State {WALKING, RUNNING}, you're only calling 0 and 1, right? There's no additional data vs a dict where the each key stores the animation, move speed, etc. You still have to define that elsewhere. 100
Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 09/12/2024I guess I just have yet to find any reason why I'd need to bother going through typing out 50 variables only to enum through them just to assign int values 0 - 49 to them. Not only does that just seem like bad code, it just doesn't seem more useful than using a for loop to create a dict. 220
Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Example: I had to set up a dict where each entry was an array. I set up the dict keys to just be 0 up to the final index of another array for simplicity. I tried it as an enum at first before realizing they only assign a consecutive int value to your dict keys. Why would I not use a for loop? 110
Soup Wizard @soup-wizard.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Genuine question: What is a realistic use-case for enums in gdscript or in general? Try as I might, I can never find a good use for them in any way that simplifies my code or workflow. #godot #gamedev 270
