it’s like taking a rotting trump steak out of the garbage and wiping it off with a 1997 think different press release and putting it out there like it’s gonna generate 100 billion

is this the first product from the national design studio? trying to track how gebbia’s “apple store experience” design ethos gets eaten up by techno-fascism and regurgitated into 80s–90s-style ad campaign trash

this administration is about breaking things apart as a domination strategy, dismantling to put loyalists in place, and these sites are no exception. gebbia is the new musk and it smells like failure, not progress, like the cheap gold trimmings in the oval office

and I think we're changing the title, from Queer Typographies to Survival by Sharing, which comes from Come!Unity Press (NYC 1972–80). I did some digging recently, difficult to find much about them, but after searching their name for years now, tried searching their phone #, and this got me further

the AIDS Quilt panel for educator and activist Katrina Haslip; it looks like there’s an actual braid of hair sewn into the quilt, above the “n” in Katrina, and the letterforms seem to be adorned with hair, too

just adding Queer.Archive.Work, our own tiny volunteer-run collective, to the very long list of arts orgs de-funded by the NEA—would have been our first NEA grant, our largest ever, & would have created a new job here in RI. I love who we are & we’ll continue to support each other no matter what <3

Here’s the full list of 2025 NEA grantees in Rhode Island. I’d like to know what the total loss is, out of the $300k. Who else had funding withdrawn besides us (QAW)? What will the state do to compensate for such a loss in the arts in our tiny community?

He expanded the statement in 2009, published in The Vignelli Canon, where I think he clarified his view, which was that he was not interested in typography as an expressive medium (“I do not like typography intended as an expression of the self ”); I don’t think this was about availability / access

marveling at how extreme this was (Massimo Vignelli statement about typography, 1991)
A poster for an event at the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 1991, with a statement by Massimo Vignelli about typography.

“In the new computer age the proliferation of typefaces and type manipulations represents a new level of visual pollution threatening our culture. Out of thousands of typefaces, all we need are a few basic ones, and trash the rest. So come and see A Few Basic Typefaces.”

an anti-authoritarian academic code of conduct by @rachelxb.bsky.social (ht @literaturegeek.bsky.social)
Photo of a paper text list titled "The Anti-Authoritarian Academic Code of Conduct", created by Rachel Barney: "the anti-authoritarian academic code of conduct
1. i will not aid in the registering, rounding-up, or internment of students and colleagues on the basis of their religious beliefs.
2. i will not aid in the marginalization, excluston, or deportation of my undocumented students and colleagues.
3. 1 will, as my capacities allow, discourage and defend against the bullying and harassment of vulnerable students and colleagues targeted for important aspects of their identity (such as race, gender, religious beliefs, sexual ortentation, etc.).
4. 1 will not aid government or law enforcement in activities which violate the u.s. constitution or other u.s. law.
5. 1 will not aid in government surveillance. I will not inform.
6. as a teacher and researcher, 1 will not be bought or intimidated. i will present the state of research in my field accurately, whether or not it is what the government wants to hear. i will challenge others when they lie.
7. i will not be shy about my commitment to academic values: truth, objectivity, free inquiry, and rational debate. 1 will challenge others when they engage in behavior contrary to these values.
8. as an administrator, 1 will defend my students, faculty, and
non-academic staff. i will not allow the expulsion, firing, disciplining, harassment, or marginalization of individuals targeted for being members of disfavoured groups or for expressing dangerous opinions. i will speak up for academic freedom. i will insist on the autonomy of my institution.
9. i will stand with my colleagues at other institutions, and defend their rights and freedoms.
10. i will be fair and unbiased in the classroom, in grading, and in all my dealings with all my students, including those who disagree with me"
