The media constantly slammed Biden about his age. Trump is a whacky old guy, mired in the past, yet no one talks about his gaffes and gerontological issues.

My first thoughts were: "What a wuss" "What a bunch of sissies" to call out the Nat'l Guard unnecessarily in this instance. But, of course, you are right, it's a dress rehearsal for overturning elections.

Right. Don't expect any meaningful deals. Trump doesn't really want deals. He wants tariff revenue--so he can cut and eventually eliminate income taxes for his own benefit. Nutty? Math doesn't work? Doesn't matter. That's his plan and he's sticking to it. Bessent's comments are a coverup.

Huge new tariffs on EU, Apple are Trump's nutty solution to his politically disastrous "Big Bill" that'll blow up the deficit, triggering big cuts to Medicare, which he promised not to cut. Trump think: make EU and Apple "pay." More manufacturing in the US? Just talk. Trump wants the tariff $.

New big tariffs on EU, Apple. Why? The "Big Bill's" tax cuts for tips, overtime and the wealthy will blow up the deficit, triggering huge cuts to Medicare, which Trump promised not to do. His nutty solution? Make EU and Apple "pay." Manufacture iPhones in the US? Just talk. Trump wants the tariff $.

It's nutty Trumpian "logic:" His "Big Bill's" promised tax cuts on tips, overtime and the wealthy will blow up the deficit, triggering huge cuts to Medicare, which he promised not to do. How to solve? Make the EU and Apple "pay." A demand to make iPhones in the US? Just talk. He wants the tariff $.

Doesn't understand or willfully ignorant about who actually pays the tariffs. Definitely does not appear to understand the negative and far-reaching effects of his tariffs on US trade and overall economy.

Yes, and he's already given himself and his wealthy pals an exemption thru lower tariffs for UK luxury cars. He talks about everyone getting rich. I think he's convinced himself everyone will be thrilled if he eliminates federal income taxes. That's why he's not looking for an offramp.

Trump tariffs are not going away. These trade talks are a smokescreen. Trump's still wed to his crazy dream of funding a drastically diminished USG entirely with tariffs in lieu of income taxes. He's unlikely to roll back tariffs in a meaningful way, no matter the counter offer.

Trump will continue to cut grants, no matter the value of the program. Why? Because he is wed to his crazy plan to fund the USG entirely with tariffs in lieu of income taxes. He's been told the math doesn't work, so he's radically slashing the US budget wherever he thinks he can get away with it.

Glad someone in the media finally said this. Marc Elias recently wrote, "Courts Must Stop Presuming Donald Trump is a Regular President." I'd extend this to economists and market analysts. Stop looking for some special tariff strategy to benefit the US. There is none. Trump wants the tariff revenue.

See Trump's recent statements re tariffs vs. income taxes. It looks like his real goal is to try to raise enough revenue from broadranging permanent tariffs to fund a drastically slashed USG and, thus, to eliminate income taxes for Trump. Dumb?Recession concerns? Trump thinks he knows better.

Trump's tariff fiasco isn't really about fentanyl, more US jobs or better trade deals. Those are just spin. The goal is to raise enough revenue from broadranging permanent tariffs to fund a drastically slashed USG in order to eliminate income taxes for Trump. Simplistic? Trump's a simplistic thinker.

The only way to make sense of these and similar cuts is to see that it's not at all about efficiencies. It's about making gov't small enough to be funded by permanent tariffs so Trump can eliminate income taxes for himself and friends. It may sound simplistic, but Trump is not a complex thinker.

Trump tariffs are not going away. Talk about new factories or trade deals is a smokescreen. Trump's dream is to replace income taxes with a combo of tariff revenues and drastic budget cuts. He's unlikely to roll back tariffs in a meaningful way, no matter the counter offer.

Re tonight's show: The only way to make sense of Trump's chaotic firings, slashing of gov't contracts, programs and grants, etc., is to see that it is not about efficiencies. It's about getting the gov't small enough to be funded by permanent tariffs so Trump won't have to pay income taxes any more.

Re tonight's show: The only way to make sense of the tariff chaos is to see it's not really about helping US industries, bringing back jobs or better trade deals. It's about raising enough revenue from permanent tariffs to fund a very reduced USG so Trump can eliminate income taxes for himself.

What Trump is doing to the gov't and economy right now is for his own personal benefit--so Trump won't have to pay any more income taxes. He aims to fund a drastically reduced gov't with tariffs instead of income taxes. The common good does not factor in.

Trump will not give up on his tariffs (and extreme cuts to the USG) as long as he believes he can ultimately fund a radically reduced gov't with permanent tariffs instead of income taxes. He seems completely dug in on this.

Trump's negotiation talk is a smokescreen. His tariffs aren't about new factories or trade deals. It's the MONEY. Trump's dream is to replace income taxes with a combo of tariff revenues and drastic budget cuts. He's unlikely to roll back tariffs in a meaningful way, no matter the counter offer.

China seems to understand Trump better than his own advisors do. Trump tariffs are not about new factories or trade deals. It's the MONEY. Trump's dream is to replace income taxes with a combo of tariff revenues and drastic budget cuts. He wants the MONEY, so negotiations are a sideshow. #Tariffs

It is a mistake to assume that Trump ever has the national interest in mind. The only way to make sense of Trump's actions is to ask: "What's in it for Trump personally?" "How will this enrich him?" "How will it enhance his power, punish his enemies, garner praise and adulation for himself, etc.?"

Cutting funding for Harvard, removing its tax-exempt status? it's all part of Trump's plan to eliminate US income taxes via broad permanent tariffs and drastic USG spending cuts. The gov't demands? A MAGA wish list, but really just an excuse for the money grab. #tariffs #incometax #Academicfreedom

Mistakes? Maybe not. it's all about the money. Cutting off Harvard funding is part of Trump's plan to eliminate US income taxes via broad permanent tariffs and drastic spending cuts. List of demands? Red meat for the right, but really excuses for the money grab. #tariffs #incometax #Academicfreedom

Recently on Fox, Trump reiterated that tariffs could replace income taxes. While it's unlikely tariffs could raise enough revenue to run the USG, Trump is serious. I expect tariffs to be permanent or even increased over current levels, and related USG cost-cutting to be more extreme. #Tariffs

Trump's desire to house US citizen prisoners in El Salvador is not unrelated to his goal of replacing income taxes with tariffs. No matter the justification, it's all about the money for Trump. It costs half as much to keep prisoners in CECOT as in US Federal Prisons. #Tariffs #Elsalvadorprisons

We should consider how Trump's desire to deport US citizen prisoners to El Salvador relates to his goal of replacing income taxes with tariffs. It's all about the money for Trump. It costs half as much to house prisoners in CECOT as in US Federal Prisons. Trump is sure to keep pushing this.

Trump is doing this for himself. It looks like he thinks he can reduce/eliminate federal income taxes by raising enough revenue to fund a drastically slashed USG through wide-ranging permanent tariffs he still believes will be "paid by foreign countries." Making Putin happy is just a side-benefit.

Here's something simple: Forget all the sophisticated and rational reasons for Trump's tariffs. Simple answer: "Stable genius" Trump thinks he can eliminate Federal Income Taxes and fund a drastically slashed USG with revenue from permanent tariffs "paid by foreign countries." #GildedAge

Trump believes China will pay the tariffs. He's said “...in 1913, for reasons unknown to mankind, they established the income tax so that citizens, rather than foreign countries, would start paying the money necessary to run our government.” He seems to think he can replace income tax with tariffs.

Trump's statements/Doge actions show he hopes to end Fed Income Tax by instituting broad permanent tariffs, downsizing gov't agencies, ending gov't grants/contracts, selling gov't properties, privatizing Soc Sec, Medicare, etc., and selling "Gold Card" visas to rich immigrants. #Incometax #Tariffs

I believe this volatile situation will continue until there is some kind of Congressional intervention or, possibly, until American consumers cut back on spending so much that the expected tariff revenue "windfall" fails to meet Trump's expectations. #StockMarket #Trump #Tariffs

So, Trump is lounging around FL, just waiting for the big tariff bucks to roll into the Treasury. Does he care about higher prices or the Stock Market? No, he does not, because he believes consumers and the Market will be thrilled once Federal income taxes are abolished. #tariffs #incometax

Tired of all the sane-splaining of Trump's tariffs. Simple explanation, based on his previous comments: he wants to fund the gov't with tariffs in order to end US income taxes. Fentanyl, illegal border crossings, trade imbalances are just a bunch of excuses. #tariffs #incometax
