Another #Lorcana set champs, another 2nd place. That make 3 times at 2nd place and once at 3rd. I'm happy to have the playset now, but the lack of a 2nd place mat continues to sting. The pursuit and disappointment is exhausting.

I did my second #Lorcana Set Champs today. And I got 2nd for a second time. The lack of runner-up mat doesn't feel great. It definitely stings to get that far and get the same prize as 8th place. The meta feels really healthy and the experience was otherwise great.

Between set 6 and set 7, we have now opened 11 booster boxes in a row without seeing a single enchanted. 8 of those boxes were in respective sealed cases. How bad is this luck? Are we cursed? #Lorcana

Hot take. The mass adoption of bots and greedy engagement-based matchmaking algorithms have made me completely disengage from all PVP games using them. It completely defeats the purpose of competitive play and immediately makes those games uninteresting. I hope the industry finds its way back.

The "Belle Curve". Pawpcicle, Ice Block, and Obscuropshere are not bad options in a deck like this. Obscurosphere helps ensure they have to attack into Hidden Archer to remove her. As does Of the Ball.

In conclusion, many of the dual-ink cards seem confused in design. For a vast majority of the dual-ink cards, the design space that the card type opened up was not used to its full potential to bolster existing archetypes that have fallen flat or to provide much needed power and mechanics. 5/5

What most of the color pairings need to compete with the colors that dominate ever meta, is access to unconditional draw. Dual-ink cards are the safest way to accomplish this. However, cards like Peg show an unwillingness to give certain colors reasonable draw mechanics that will see play. 4/x

Instead, many of these cards are normal cards that could appear in either of the 2 colors on them, but they were given the dual-ink specifier instead almost arbitrarily. It's almost as if they were simply showing us the color pairing they designed the card for. 3/x

These cards were a prime opportunity to give certain color pairings much needed power/draw/mechanics that they were missing, without giving it to popular/meta color pairings. These cards could have even been budgeted a little higher in power because of their inherent deckbuilding restriction. 2/x

Everything about this card is fantastic. It's a perfect example of how to maximize dual-ink design. The art is literal and figurative fire. Flavor points to being in Mulan's colors. And it has fun, useful abilities that can be built around while not giving tools to existing Ruby or Steel decks.

I personally am okay with a blitz of reveals over a trickle. It prevents anxiety and speculation when a powerful card is released before the context of the rest of the set. I just wish some of this was communicated better and further in advance so that expectations are correct.
