New preprint w/@jzacks.bsky.social and @adibuoy23.bsky.social What determines where we look as the world unfolds? In highly controlled experiments, gaze is shaped by both low-level perceptual features and higher-level semantic information. How can we pull them apart in naturalistic behavior? 🧵

(1/9) Preprint Alert! 🚨 New work on how the brain comprehends narratives. 🧠🎥 Are "Key Moments" - our recent line of research - truly distinct from "Event Boundaries"? We put them to the test to see if these two constructs differ from each other. doi.org/10.31234/osf...

Excited to share that my first-ever first-author paper (w/ @atabk.bsky.social @AngeliqueDelarazan @zreagh.bsky.social) is now out in PNAS! Building a story to link two objects boosts associative memory and inference, but not memory for the objects themselves. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... 🧵

I assigned random gender/ethnicity labels to scientific abstracts from the literature and then asked Claude to do a thematic analysis. Claude identified a clinical versus computational split for female/male authors and a DEI focus for Black/URM authors. All in completely random data.

Why do some people never get lost while others rely on GPS? A new review, written by @hugospiers.bsky.social and @emre-yavuz-21.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s44... argues that navigation ability is shaped by both fixed factors (age, genetics) and modifiable ones (sleep, exercise, experience).

When does using AI to produce research slip into fraud? And why does so much AI-for-science 'optimism' actually rest on a deeply pessimistic view of scientific agency? 🤔 New post: statmodeling.stat.columbia.edu/2026/04/22/f...

Walking from pasta to the frozen aisle — do you forget your goal of eating healthier? The cognitive question is: when your experience shifts, does your mind update incrementally or globally? The answer might surprise you. 🧵 1/3

Excited to share our paper (with @jzacks.bsky.social), now out in JEP:LMC! Event boundaries sometimes disrupt temporal order memory in list-based paradigms—but what happens in narratives with more complex structures that better resemble real life? ✨ Link: psycnet.apa.org/record/2027-...

Excited to share that our new paper, “Predictive Looking and Predictive Looking Errors in Everyday Activities,” is now out in JEP: General! 🧠 We examined how people’s eye movements reveal both their predictions and their prediction errors while they watch everyday actions. 👇
