I think a shocking number of our major societal problems would vanish overnight if you could magically pull the plug on the X platform and Meta, both of which are carefully designed to turn people into the worst version of themselves.

tbf it is nice to see political leaders grasp the nettle like this, and realising things can't go on as they are

secretly Labour will be fine with this. i imagine their view is that the Greens have peaked without breaking away from fringe-party status, and that internal strife will set in across the Greens while Zack remains in place

lol no

sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
hell it seems like a lot of Greens have ruled out working with Greens after that vote
020
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
well exactly, but for some reason there's a need to go further, and designate certain people as bad and deserving of particular treatment. not sure how that helps anything but there we are
010
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
does that mean the motion thinks there are other forms of zionism?
000
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
no the attacking Jews part is a set of practices being put in place in the Green party that will have a disproportionate impact on Jews - such as making a common aspect of Jewism communal life and identity grounds for disciplinary action
100
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
nor this
000
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
this is irrelevant
200
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
it wouldn't be the ideology, it would be anti-Jewish discrimination because a set of practices has been put in place in the Green party that will have a disproportionate impact on Jews it's pretty much the exact same thing that happened in Labour in the last decade
120
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
anti-Zionists aren't being discriminated
010
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
there are less than 300k Jews in the UK. there aren't millions of Jews of any kind
000
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
worse than evasive, there was an amendment that would have (to a large extent) killed the issue, but it was rejected
000
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
equality law says different
200
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
so it's significant in that Zionism across its forms is only an aspect of Jewish communal life, which makes Jews by far the biggest potential target of discriminatory treatment here. it's one reason why the Greens' legal team will be working overtime right now to avoid the inevitable
000
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
and the fact remains that two-third of British Jews identify as Zionists, and Zionism across its forms is a part of a large part of Jewish communal life if the motion isn't intended to enable the targeting of Jews on this basis, the amendment would have been carried, yet here we are
200
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
but Zionism, across its forms, is a facet only of Jewish communal life, and in practice even if non-Jewish people support the existence of Israel they simply wouldn't describe themselves as Zionists. besides, if Jewishness isn't affected, there would have been no reason to vote down this amendment
100
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
it is because it applies a structure of less favourable treatment that will apply almost entirely to Jewish members and those who participate in Jewish communal life
110
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
fundamentally, there are parts of the motion that try to throat clear and steer away from discriminatory practices within the Green Party itself, but it still allows that to happen and the fact that this amendment was rejected at the same time is pretty damning
000
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
about two-thirds of UK Jews consider themselves to be Zionists across its various types, including the ones who don't believe Israel should exist in its current form at all. that means an element of less favourable treatment is now in place in the Green party, almost entirely affecting Jews

sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
well, yeah. in what sense is that representative democracy?
000
sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
bro it was like 1% of even Green members who even bothered to vote. less than that who voted for it. there's no majority of anything to speak of

sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
yeah, that decision by the Greens just cost them the Holborn and St Pancras byelection and set them on a course for an EHRC investigation into criminal discrimination against a protected group. go outside.

again Adam, nobody wants your capitulation. stop thinking you're the victim here

sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
no Adam, you think they're slime. you're happy to have an avenue to express your hate. that's why you (and the Green nuts) picked a framework that applies to broadly

it's absolutely incredible to see the same process that destroyed Labour in the last decade do the same to the Greens in this one, but even faster. Just imagine what things will look like in a few months time

It's hard to see how the Green party's motion today will avoid an investigation by the EHRC, given Labour was previously found in breach.

sweepsayer @sootysayer.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
there's no way it can avoid it. the motion calls for discriminatory standards to be applied to a protected group

We're minutes away from the notion of a Left Bloc in English politics completely imploding. There is no way that I, as a Labour voter, could vote for a Green Party which has almost certainly transformed itself into the largest and most extreme antisemitic force that this country has ever seen.
