Today marks my 2 year anniversary of joining this team to keep #ConnectingGaza
To "celebrate" & for the next 24h, I'm matching don@tions until we reach 100 USD (raising 200 USD total)
I spend 2h daily for this fundraiser on average = 1460 hours in 2 years (equivalent to 62 days straight or 9 months of a full time job working 8h per day 5 days a week).
It's all worth it because any kind of lifeline reaching Palestinian people in Gaza is priceless.
I'm immensely grateful to people who trust us with their money, to the ones sharing the campaign, some of them I've seen for 2 years now, some I used to see regularly and hope they're okay even if I don't see them anymore. I'm grateful for the artists who agreed to do projects with us.
I'm grateful for the reminder that behind each Palestinian account is a whole life and story everytime a new request comes, to not get numb.

I'm grateful for my co-admins, translators and designer. Everyone of us had struggles this year, health both physical and mental or family problems, and we still try our best.
Just for today I'll allow myself to share some of the things that make it harder and harder to continue:
- When I arrived back in 2024 we used to raise more than 1400 USD and send about 40 units to @Connectinghu_ weekly
- We also used to have thousands of rts and dozens of quotes at least on our main post
- People used to do matching challenges, projects, raffles, artwork commissions to help us raise funds and now it's almost 0. The ones who tried can't get people to join
I /know/ every fundraiser is struggling, some people moved on, others can't give as much as they used to because the cost of living is 📈 almost everywhere. But another part of my brain can't accept it because the situation in Gaza didn't change. It's still horrible, eSIMs are still needed, so much effort is spent trying to erase and silence these voices.

These last few months have been hard because what's been motivating, helping and feeling useful, is turning into a very stressful situation.
Having to say no to people reaching out for help is heartbreaking everytime. Having people thinking we don't want to help them, or worse that we're a s/cam stealing money but not actually helping because we can't get a new eSIM for them because of lack of funds is horrible. (I'm not blaming them, they're desperate)
Recently, not having enough to top up plans in time has been really stressful. I sometimes cover 1 or 2 plans with my own funds but I can't do it everytime.
I've been forced to think about whether we'll have to choose what plans to top up, what users to drop and I h@te it 😔 I really really wish and do all I can so we don't get there.
It also feels lonely sometimes, doing more tasks than I should while team members are going through things, making urgent calls that are not shared a lot. I know the algo/rithm is NOT helping and a lot of people left this platform but it's undeniable the engagement is not the same as it used to be.

I've took it upon myself to open accounts on other platforms but we have very little reach, I organised projects with artists but only a few participates and are often regular donors already, we made a call for a volunteer to help with visuals but got no answer, I spread the word irl but even people who find it's a great way to help and take cards to pass around don't seem to actually donate unless if they directly give me the money they have in the moment.
Sometimes I can't help but wonder for how long we'll be able to keep going. I want to keep helping as long as eSIMs are needed and I'll do it as much as I can with the means available.
I think of the people trusting us, both donors and users, and I grit my teeth to keep going.

Framing things as only hurtful & not also harmful allows/is used to be dismissive & to say you can be hurt/disappointed/sad but anything more is "too much"/ illegitimate or even hateful The harm should be reflected on talked abt & addressed, among us & I hope, by the members too

Framing what happened as only hurtful and not also harmful is what allows a lot of people to be dismissive & to say you can be hurt/disappointed/sad but anything more (expressing it, pointing out how it participates in enabling abusers regardless of intent, trying to reach the members, pointing out how it doesn't align with the messages they so often shared etc) is "too much"/ illegitimate or even hateful.

Making it seem like it's only a personnal choice to see Namjoon and Hoseok going at that concert + hyping Chris Brown up + staying quiet until now (especially after Chris Brown insulted one of their fans) as harmful is denying facts and lived experiences of abuse survivors that abusers are emboldened by enablers. And in the case of an artist-abuser, going to his concert, meeting him, posing with him /is/ a form of support, especially because celebrity-abusers get away with it because of industry support (among other things). And in return these celebrity-abusers influence society and embolden "regular" abusers too.

This is why this discussion is multi-leveled, because there is the level of personnal reactions and emotions to it that makes us think and feel as a fan, but there is also this macro-level of longterms harmful effects that is not subjective.
I understand having different emotions, reactions and even opinions on /how/ harmful it is and what to do with all this but flat out denying that this is not only a problem of getting our feelings hurt is missing so much. And I think some are doing it because it is much easier to switch the blame and pretend no wrong was done, including with very ableist rethoric calling ARMYs speaking up or trying to reach the members parasocial, emotionally deregulated or even using mental illness as an insult.

The hurt is there for many and it should be welcomed/dealt with/witnessed with empathy (while not crossing the line of being cruel or hateful).
But the harm is there too and for everyone, whether we acknowledge it or not. (and I'm not saying it is the maximum level of harm! Like let's be very clear the one doing the most harm is Chris Brown himself, then huge enablers like Usher being his co-headliner, then people working with him, his network, then his fans etc. There are levels to it). I believe the harm should be reflected on, talked about and addressed, among us first and, I hope, by the members too.

Namjoon, you have spoken many times about reading feminist books and learning about feminism. But feminism cannot just be something you read about, talk about, or use as part of your image. It has to mean something when it is uncomfortable and when there is nothing to gain from it.
Seeing you and hoseok happily meeting, hugging, smiling with, and publicly promoting a man who assaulted women is deeply disturbing. Especially when so many of the people who support you are women.
What is the point of reading feminist books if, when faced with a real situation involving violence against women, you can simply smile beside the man who committed it and celebrate meeting him?
You don’t owe your fans perfection. But please don’t expect us to ignore the contradiction. Words about respecting women mean very little if they disappear the moment they become inconvenient.
I hope you genuinely think about this, not as idols being “cancelled,” but as human beings asking themselves what their actions communicate. Because this was not just a photo. You chose to make this interaction public, and people are allowed to be deeply disappointed by that choice.
I mentioned Namjoon more specifically because of his history of speaking about feminism and reading feminist literature, but I am NOT saying that he is the only one responsible for this.
Taehyung and Jungkook are equally disappointing for playing Chris Brown’s music during a livestream where millions of people could hear it. That is still publicly giving his music a platform and normalizing his work.

All four of them are adults and responsible for their own actions. I may have focused more on Namjoon in my post, but that does NOT mean I excuse or defend the others. I believe all four should reflect on their choices and understand why so many fans are hurt and disappointed.
I never wrote my post with the intention of hurting them. I wrote it because I was hurt. There is a difference. I don’t hate them, I don’t want anything bad to happen to them, and I’m not going anywhere.
And when BTS comes to Brazil, I will be there. I’ll be in that crowd screaming, crying, and supporting you as I always have.
But loving someone doesn’t mean pretending that person never makes mistakes. I can love BTS with all my heart and still expect them to acknowledge when they have done something wrong. I just hope they understand why this hurt so many of us.

Oh okay, it's been hell on twt I think (?) it is linked to their Samsung partnership? I was never a fan of brand deals but these last few years it's getting harder & harder to ignore / deal with it And in the case of genai it shouldn't be ignored because it's so harmful of course

So Bluesky armys, has the news of the BTS x Google gemini ad reached Bluesky yet and has there been some pushback? A reminder that it is completely okay to oppose generative ai and even necessary when its harmful effects (environmental, societal, medical, etc) impact us even if we don't use it
