DIGGER has one of the best scenes of the year—and also the rest of the movie. Kind of a mess! Amazing commitment to the bit by Tom Cruise, our last movie star. An interesting failure, and I'm honestly not sure which of those words to stress more. www.thebulwark.com/p/digger-rev...

If Congress passes a new law giving film productions tax breaks as part of an effort to get them to shoot in the United States rather than abroad, does that mean presidents will have some say over what films get made? Our @sonnybunch.bsky.social finds out: www.thebulwark.com/p/a-bipartis...

There's a chance that, for the first time, a federal film credit will pass. If it does, and if California OR New York expands their tax credits, it will have consequences for Paramount-Skydance's settlement with the AGs. I explain why in my newsletter: www.thebulwark.com/p/a-bipartis...

So this is one reason why there’s some hesitance: they want to see what an actual deal looks like. And there’s some talk of adding escalation clauses (eg, a bigger credit if you’re in more states, etc). But the money would go to the production team, be it a studio or whoever paid for the filmmaking.
