Between high school students' marches against the government being repressed in police violence and wild fires still going on North of Dijon, the 'new normal' is giving me headaches. ☹️ On the plus side, rain is expected sometime tomorrow, last one was a month ago. Yay. 🤨

Was invited for a visit of the Villa Palladienne in Syam (Jura, France). My taste for architecture and books was fully sated. ❤️

Today was a murder mystery lunch, part of the Chat Perché festival in Dole, Jura, France. Weather was sunny and hot at 28°C.

Louis Pasteur was born in Dole but lived in Arbois. His first work was in grape yeasts for wine fermentation. His house can be visited, his upstairs lab still has some edible soup in vacuumed phials. He was also the first to get rid of carpets in his home, to prevent sample contamination from them.

Had completely missed out on this cover of 'Song 2' by Dionysos and Louise Attaque. It's a bit noisy. youtu.be/ZoyXKjGcuDU?...

So. Due to all the droughts this year, Champagne is climbing up the alcohol/proof ladder and will rate at at least 13%, grapes' sugar level being higher. At least, something is coming out of this climatic mess. 🙄

A mouse has nicked one of the dog's treats and is trying to get it through the entrance to her den. ❤️

These days, my 'to watch' streaming list includes more gardening, cooking and travelling programmes. Currently, Tucci and Ayoade are my favourite, and additional obscure stuff on Arte. Furthermore, in movies, main characters' dads look appealing. That's it, it's official, I'm old. 😱

Weird questions that occasionally pop up - Was it 2 or 3 marriages that Dr Watson went through in A. Conan Doyle's Holmesian novels? 🤔 I used to know but for the life of me, can't seem to remember. 😅

I've just been to see the Odyssey at my local IMax. A few things spring to mind. - the poor Argos: a 'John Wick' revenge sprang to mind. - Odysseus as a Saint Sebastian martyr: I thought he would pull a 'Boromir', so convinced I was he was supposed to die but was taking ages. - Pattinson keeps >>>>>

I've gone overboard with basil. However, I'm planning homemade pesto preserves for this winter. 😋 One is the 'Giant' ('mammouth') variety and the other one I can't remember if it's the Tuscan or Caprese kind... 😅

Sitting underneath the magnolia while the eclipse allowed the scorching temperature to cool off somewhat. My cat, Gracie, noticed something was on. My dog, Saïka, was completely oblivious. I was just grateful for the shade.

Happy Skynet-goes-active day to all who celebrate. Somewhere in another multiverse, Skynet originates from a Minitel and a Terminator movie turns into a Giscardpunk wet dream. 🤔 I'd watch that. 🤣

When you buy birthday gifts for someone and you get gifts in return too! 🤣 We exchanged around coffee time today, the occasion to have a natter about everything and nothing in particular.

2 books, 'The teacher' by Freida McFadden, 'Babel' by R.F. Kuang and chocolate covered walnuts (chouchous-style).

Seeing how the fires are going near Bordeaux, we do really need more firemen, we're not enough. 😢

Woke up to the smell of soldering in the air (long Covid busted sense of smell and taste since 2022). This is due to fires 500 km away in Gironde, but also a local fire 5 km away. I closed everything and currently using my air filters.

French people lounging on the seaside looking at Gironde wildfire smoke trailing in the sky. Title reads 'Don't look up', as per movie reference.

It's come to a point that having a well could add 50k upmarket value to my house in the very near future. Let's go even further - maybe one's dating profile could be most appealing with a key sentence or two, such as 'Come hither, I own a well and I work for EDF'... 🤣👍❤️

As I prepare for the 4th drought in 2 months (starting this Wednesday), UK farmers are discovering the consequences of droughts too. The quote I noticed was this one: "What [UK] farmers need are the subsidies they had when we were in the EU." 🙄 www.bbc.com/news/article...

Some parents like to treat teachers with a welcome coffee. ❤️ This morning, we have a 2-hour work on the French Baccalauréat - my student is currently working on his French viva poetical texts by Hélène Dorion.
