Still finding Hasselblad bits and pieces to part ways with. Today, a nice 16mm extension tube for classic V-series cameras. USD $75 shipped. Who wants it?

"I found a place for lunch. Looks good." "What's it called? I'll look up directions and meet you there." "You know what? Let's go somewhere else."

It happens so infrequently it always comes as a shock and feels like a slight betrayal, but it is inevitable. The battery in my light meter has run out.

Every new sketchbook needs a good doodle to get things going.

We used to do this thing we called "The Saturday Sandwich," which was me making up some rad sandwich to enjoy for lunch on a Saturday. Today, we resumed the tradition with ham on french bread with guacamole, sprouts, pickled onions, roasted red peppers, and mayo. It was damned good.

5D II and a 40mm f/2.8 STM, the best daily use combo I know.

Pretty hard to beat this setup. F2 Photomic, 35mm Nikkor-O, soft release, yellow filter, proper hood, and a Diagnl Ninja strap (which I invented, btw). 400 ISO B&W film pushed to EI 1,600. The diary camera.

Made two mistakes. One, opened Facebook. Two, clicked on a Japan-related post.
foreign residents shouldn't be entitled to the same social benefits as citizens, unless they've lived there all their lives. Even if they pay taxes, they haven't contributed to the Japanese society since the beginning of their lives, so they shouldn't have the right to the same social benefits as someone who has lived in Japan all of their life.

Put on a new tire to replace the one that failed. Went with another Panaracer Closer Plus, as the failure of the last one was a matter of my own negligence. Still a great tire. Also trying out some combo SPD/flat pedals, so the bike is now shoe-agnostic.

Some of the photo gear I pulled from the trash today. This is why I go out looking.

When it rains this much, the broken umbrella situation at train stations can get out of hand.

Realized today I've had this bike about 11 years, which means I've had it way longer than any other bike in my life. It's been my bike almost as long as I've been in Japan. Steel frame, fixed gear, and as much fun a decade later as it ever was.

I'm not going to make a habit of posting pictures of my daughter online, but now and then? Why not? She was a month old on Monday.

You ever rebel against yourself? Because I didn't catch on at first, but I've been doing it recently. I write a lot, and I mostly write with fountain pens because they're comfortable and nice. I just like them. For the last month, at least 75% of everything has been written with a Bic Cristal.

One thing I actually really like about the plastic umbrellas from convenience stores is that they doesn't interfere with using a light meter.

TPU tubes sure ride nice, but the phantom punctures I could do without. It's not even consistent. Sometimes this tube is fine for days, holds pressure fine, other times it goes fully flat in a few hours. No rhyme or reason to any of it. Booooooo

I'm not one to brag, but my spider plant is pretty epic. The pot it's in is sitting on a 5-gallon bucket, BTW.

First picture is a pocket dump from 2006. 20 years later I still use the same hook on my keys. The track bike cog lockring it's still with me, too, only it's on my keys now instead of being my DIY phone fob.

Walked 56,000 steps over the weekend, mostly carrying photo gear. Multiple cameras, plus more stuff in my backpack. Fairly heavy. Today, I am tired. But it's a good tired, the sort that you earn.

Went for a sixth option: Nikon F2 Photomic 😬 Pretty hard to beat. Eventually need to figure out why it won't trigger a flash and get that fixed, though. I rarely use flash, but it's good to have the option.

Earlier this year, a tripod fell over and broke the lower glass in one of the living room doors. I took out the loose glass and taped/papered over the rest. Today, I made a temporary fix. I'll get real glass eventually, but for now the corrugated plastic will do the job. Being handy is nice.

My cat's hair is long and extremely fine, so it gets matted pretty easily, even when he's grooming well. The vet recommended a ¥100 flea comb to help pick apart matted hair. It works well! Reduces the need to cut anything out, which is always risky since cat skin is so easy to cut accidentally.

Lost my keys this morning. Retraced my steps twice, then went back to the stores I'd gone to. They were at the service counter at CORSO! My sketch of my keyring helped with the recovery process.

Once again, dinner was a mountain of vegetables plus tofu and some basic seasoning. All I've eaten this week is tons of green vegetables, tofu, avocado, nuts, kimchi, olives, and a few hard boiled eggs. It's boring but not disagreeable and I feel great.

Mr Snaggletooth here says good morning. (He looks like that because his bottom fangs are his only remaining teeth and his lip often gets caught on them)
