But equally, it’s not a surprise. His first loyalty is to himself as he perceives himself (so that includes his resort and his wallet), and his second loyalty is to the things that he perceives directly affect himself. People from cities that chose not to vote for him aren’t even in the top ten.

Australian here. I work in one of the largest companies in the country, our anonymous surveys work. I have seen things I whinged about get fixed, I have seen positive change in our business and our business partners as a result of our surveys. Perhaps you need to approach the surveys differently.

I understand wanting to do that. I far prefer the Greens’ stated policies on matters like immigration and environment. But, they have done some serious dicking around in recent years such as opposing Labor’s laws for affordable housing and then complaining that Labor weren’t doing anything about it.

Apparently, very few people are aware of one of the fundamental principles of psychology: the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour. They can’t see Trump cheating on taxes, wives, business partners, clients, the 2016 election, & conclude that of course he cheated on the 2024 election

For a proper comparison, this needs to be per head of population, not just raw numbers. I do support Australia’s gun laws, in fact I am utterly certain that they need to strengthened, but by my rough maths, 206 people in Australia is the equivalent of about 2470 people in the US.

Exactly. The ultra rich believe that enough money can shield them from anything, so they overpay right wing commentators and politicians to pit the less rich against each other, which distracts from how much the ultra rich are making, how little tax they are paying, and how much damage they’re doing

But did you mean the same insult? In Australia, “starchy” would mean stiff, unyielding and plain (probably the same for you), and “root” means to have sex. Here, a “starchy root”, while not a common phrase, would mean someone who was no good in bed!

I recall an RBA justification a few years back, they felt comfortable raising the rate because hairdressers had put their prices up. Of course, they did so because their landlords increased the rent … in response to the RBA raising the rate.
