@something-witchy.bsky.social if we need an additional reason to make an ofmd meetup happen in New Bedford, here it is --

The new Herman Melville in New Bedford is hot

The statue, from sculptor Stefanie Rocknak, stands in front of the Seamen's Bethel.

The announcement sat in my inbox like many local press releases do, the subject line fairly standard.

“Statue Dedication Anchors New Bedford Whaling Museum’s Melville in Our Seaport Weekend Aug. 13-16.”

I scrolled through the email with mild curiosity, mostly because I’m interested in statues. They’re often up forever, and when they’re ugly, it’s unfortunate.

I scanned the message for a picture . . . and then I saw it.

“Oh,” I thought.

What a handsome statue. What a handsome man.

To be crystal clear: the new 7.5-foot Melville statue — which will be unveiled outside the chapel near the museum known as Seamen’s Bethel during a series of celebratory events this weekend — is hot.

The #OFMD stickers I made for @something-witchy.bsky.social 2026 are a perfect fit for the bottom of my water bottle. If you want one (or more), but couldn’t make it to Salem this year, send me a DM & I’ll gladly ship some your way! We could all use a little pirate joy these days 🏴‍☠️❤️🫡 #CrewForLife

The bottom of my water bottle with a black circular sticker with “Our Flag Means Death” in gothic, hot pink font in the center, and “Our Flag Means Love” and “Our Flag Means Us” written in hot pink pirate font along the perimeter of the circle. Stickers free to a good home ❤️

its the glorious description of Mr No-Body, an icon

"mr no-body. late 1600s. artists in jingdezhen, china.
no neck, ballooning breeches.
English playwright Thomas Heywood wrote "no-body and some-body" in 1606 as a satire about the socioeconomic irresponsibility of the emerging middle class and local lords.

No-Body's character alternates between being powerful and victimized, depending on whether he is credited with good deeds or blamed for problems.

a scapegoat because of his name, no-body laments that his engulfing clothing is "scarce great enough to hold all the wrongs that I must pocket... how I am slandered throughout the world."

honestly, when I had the thought "it would be cool if we made flags in the park on the anniversary of ofmds start date which also happens to be flag day" I wasn't quite sure how we'd pull it off but I think we did pretty fucking good 💜

any pirate worth a damn has a flag (that they make in the park with their buds)

A photo of ~15 pirate pals in the park with tons of craft supplies spread between them. They are sitting on blankets on the ground working on making their flags to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the day OFMD began filming (and it’s flag day)

A photo of sculptures of the seven deadly sins but it’s from behind and they are all AGGRESSIVELY showing hole. There is the back of a pig, a cow, and a chicken

picked up the prints today and they look amazing!! @something-witchy.bsky.social

black & white illustration print of Edward Teach - he has a long beard and is wearing his leather outfit. he's half-reclining, super casual-like. he's got a wide-eyed expression. there is hand-written words saying "Something Witchy" and "OFMD SALEM 2026". around Ed are several witchy-themed doodles like a pentacle, dagger, open book, candle, crystal, and a bottle with a skull label on it.
