A study in Nature Human Behaviour shows that directing attention to bodily sensations, rather than away, promotes more regulated acute inflammatory responses in healthy volunteers, revealing sensory and vagal pathways linking mind and immune function. go.nature.com/4x7rUNR #immunosky 🧪
This is figure 2, which shows that sensory signalling contributes to attentional regulation of inflammation.

The Metacheck Shiny app to download all private OSF Repositories is done. The manual is updated, and everything is in the dev branch on GitHub. As a bonus, we explain how you can run repo_check, data_check, code_check, and codebook_check on your repository with 1 line of code. Launch next week.

Now final in @elife.bsky.social: #Synesthetes really do 'see' when reporting colors while reading (typeface gray) numbers: pupils change according to the perceived colors' brightness - if a synesthete sees a bright yellow, the pupils become smaller. elifesciences.org/articles/110...

This graph took me 3 years to make. It's perhaps the largest-ever #metaanalysis of #TMS #BrainStim data. It includes my first real scientific discovery 🧵: When you stimulate the hand with a brief electric pulse, your brain and spinal cord are momentarily less excitable: muscle output decreases 1/n
Muscle excitability (y-axis) plot against the time between stimulation of the hand (PNS) and stimulation of the cortico-spinal pathway (TMS) to the muscle (x-axis). The x-axis is in milliseconds, from 1 to 1000 on a log scale; the y-axis is the log10 ratio of muscle excitability with prior hand stimulation versus without. Each blue dot in the figure is a group mean, obtained from 353 papers. The blue line is the random effect meta-analytic mean; where the blue line goes thicker (between 17-64ms, then 100-320ms) there is a significant meta-analytic effect (i.e., the line is below zero, muscle excitability is decreased). The plot includes over 11000 datapoints. Most datapoints are concentrated in the 16-30ms period, which is studied as 'short-latency afferent inhibition' (SAI).

We present 2 versions of TMS-RAT: Version 1.0 provides *recommendations* for TMS reporting. There are 80 items (72 fully tested), but some did not reach high inter-rater reliability. v1.0 is for further development. Version 1.1 is fully-tested & all 50 items have high inter-rater reliability ⚡🐀.

Could we improve the reproducibility of TMS studies by improving how we report our methods? Let’s try that. 17 of us worked on developing and validating the TMS-RAT, a tool to guide reporting and evaluate the completeness of reporting in TMS studies. Check out the preprint👇🏻 All feedback welcome!
