Pronouns in the news, 1930 ed: antedating and author identified. Richard Tingley, prolific crossword setter, put three common-gender pronoun clues in a puzzle that ran in late 1930; this one appeared in the Rockford (IL) Star, Dec. 28, p. 23. The puzzle ran the next day in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.
Crossword with three common gender pronoun clues: 13 across: him or her, a suggested common gender pronoun; 18 across, he or she, a suggested common gender pronoun. 40 across, that one; he, she, or it, suggested common gender pronoun, third person.

Books: World Englishes in the 21st Century: Rüdiger, Neumaier, Leuckert and Buschfeld (eds.) (2025)
Twenty years after Edgar W. Schneider’s publication of the Dynamic Model, the field of World Englishes is as vibrant as ever. The further spread and entrenchment of English around the world as a result of globalisation but also localisation tendencies and, in particular, the spread of the language and its multiple varieties through the new media, has led to even further dispersion and contact scenarios, many of which challenge early conceptualisations of the World Englishes paradigm.
Yes, we can all laugh at this, but it also demonstrates the entire point of the AI push: They want to make you dependent on it to inform you, and then control what it tells you. It’s why they buy newspapers and social media, too. Elon is showing the billionaire playbook in the dumbest way possible.

Myths of meritocracy infiltrate many aspects of language learning. For example, if you do not achieve "native-like" pronunciation, it was because you did not try hard enough (rather than the fact that few people can live up to such an unrealistic standard).
