Wow! In 8 days volunteers have made over 100,000 classifications in our new project. This is really going to help improve our research, thank you! Come and join us at www.zooniverse.org/projects/lep... and you will get to see an #aurora

Can you tell us when the skies are clear? You may even see an aurora!

In our new project, we turn our attention to the impact of solar storms on the Earth's upper atmosphere in the Arctic. Optical instruments here measure the winds on the edge of space but only if clouds don't get in the way. Can you tell us when the skies are clear? www.zooniverse.org/projects/lep...

Welcome to the Solar Stormwatch BlueSky feed! Starting in 2010, we have run a series of citizen science projects in which volunteers have tracked solar storms to Earth, mapped the distribution of dust particles around Earth's orbit and investigated the visual complexity of solar storms.

✨ 🔭 Announcing Clear Skies - Kiruna! @solarstormwatch.bsky.social need clear skies in order to peer into space. Would you help by viewing pictures of the sky above Kiruna and telling when there are no clouds? Bonus: You will almost certainly get to see an aurora. www.zooniverse.org/projects/lep...
Announcing new Zooniverse project: Clear Skies - Kiruna. The DRIIVE project (Drivers and Impacts of Ionospheric Variability with EISCAT-3D) is a consortium including scientists from University College London, University of Reading and the British Antarctic Survey. We study how the sun affects the Earth's space environment using powerful RADAR and sensitive cameras situated in the Arctic. The skies need to be clear for our sensitive detectors to measure winds on the edge of space. These winds can slow down satellites in their orbits through frictional drag.

We need your help to tell us when the skies are clear and our measurements of these 'space winds' are most reliable. The image shows the whole night-sky above Kiruna, Sweden. The skies are clear with several well-known constellations of stars visible. To the top of the image (the Northern horizon) a thin band of green aurora stretches across the sky. Conditions are great for measuring winds on the edge of space!
