Astrophysicist & associate prof at the University of Colorado Boulder. I study the hot, expanding outer atmospheres of the Sun & other stars. Other weird stuff (infinite math? sci-fi? Tolkien? Harlan Ellison? Hesse's Glass Bead Game?) may show up here, too

<thud>! Another PUNCH paper dropped today! Congratulations to Sarah Gibson on this omnibus theoretical treatment of polarization in solar wind structures. Given the simplicity of the Thomson scattering mechanism, it's pretty amazing how deep the rabbit hole can go. 🧪☀️⚛️🔭🛰️ bit.ly/4qT9Kvs

In honor of the blue skies now extending in all directions, I'll plug my new paper "Intuitive but Non-Rigorous Explanations of Infinite Numbers." This journey to the land of large cardinals was very much inspired by @rudytheelder.bsky.social ... see: arxiv.org/abs/2401.07346

I had some fun writing up a new page for "miscellaneous" research for my web site. It's a start, but it will expand... stevencranmer.bitbucket.io/cranmer_res_...

I'm hoping that new publications of Harlan Ellison's work will introduce new generations to his work. I'm very thankful that JMS is leading the way here, and I'm looking forward to adding to my Harlan-shelf!

They're awesome... but because the popularity of my first name peaked around the year I was born, most of them are caught in the same weird valley between boomers and gen-X that I am. I've never watched the movie that supposedly makes my name cool, though...

It's awesome to be here in the land of cyanometry! And just saying that makes me want to add another thing to my profile... an unironic love for every page of this book:
