They really did not make a bad album. All their stuff is good. Every Breath You Take maybe overplayed, but it’s not actually a bad song

The thing is, I can’t identify Taylor Swift by audio. I can usually tag Lady Gaga (as in, “huh, this sounds like it could be lady Gaga” and then it is) but there’s SO MUCH out there that I simply don’t care enough about to register

It’s likely that you know the songs without knowing who it’s by. One of the great bands of the 80’s. Honestly they simply did not make a bad album

Yeah when I was coming up, “middle school” was literally 5th and 6th grade, “junior high” was 7th-8th. And Middle School wasn’t necessarily a separate place, it was just a developmental and educational window. Middle schoolers could be the oldest class in an elementary or the youngest in a Jr High

Middle school always sucks but that’s because middle *schoolers* suck. People that age are terrible little shits to each other, even in the best schools! The *school system* is a separate problem

By “desk to desk” you mean getting up from seated, moving to a different classroom, and being once again seated and Ready To Learn™️, not switching desks inside the same classroom, right? Because if it’s that second thing that’s *weird*

Pretty tiny, plus some specific procedure for the kids to be packed up, move, and unpack, plus maybe potty/snack in that time frame. (My Catholic school could do this but there were only 25 of us in a grade level and they marched us along in file.)

The period of time you are allowed for passing (traveling) from one classroom to the next in your schedule. OP’s child’s school allows three minutes, which is insane unless it’s a one-room schoolhouse

I’m pretty sure analogous movies are in fact being made today. By people like Kevin Sorbo. They just aren’t getting the same traction, because they suck

It must be so frustrating to have worked for years on a breakthrough in robotics only for it to happen in a time when every advancement is marketed as a replacement for humans and every normal person outside of the tech bubble actively hates it.

I think I remember an interview where she basically said, or the producers said, it had to be her because she was the only one who could bring the warmth to the part. It would have never worked otherwise

Alphabetical by author, then chronological by original publication date. If series, then the series stays together starting with the pub date of the first volume *as possible, according to size, due to space constraints **I’m fussy about format because of this, i don’t like splitting a set

No salads. Drinks had to be verifiably boiled, so a lot of Papaya Salvietti (which I wish we could get here!) and tea, and mineral water (yuk). There was also something about ice cream?

Just this morning at work I heard two guys talking plans for lunch and one says “Taco Bell” and the other goes “oh you want the diarrhea huh” I said “Taco Bell is safer rn than your other options bc they caught it and pulled the tainted produce, you don’t know that about anyone else”

I learned through trial and error that I operate best in a midsized company (or a midsized division in a large corporation), but my current employer is a small local business and they’re lovely people. Fortunately, their specific “small owner quirks” are stuff I can live with.

This is getting a lot of likes so I’m going to caveat it with a standard-issue #notall, it’s just something to have on your radar when job hunting You may have to make tradeoffs. Be alert to your personal boundaries and have an exit plan. (Should do that anyway, but small businesses can be *weird*)

one of the better pieces of job-hunting advice ive gotten was "sometimes people start small businesses and startups because they're otherwise unemployable"

Yep, Most small single-owner businesses I worked for, though often dedicated to whatever their product or service was, were *terrible* employers, and they all basically had struck out on their own because they simply couldn’t play well with others in a larger organization

“What a beautiful universe, hon" says a telescope as gazes upon an aurora borealis. “It really is”, responds the telescope's partner, who it turns out is not a telescope, but a microscope. Hands full of algae, she wades waist deep in a disgusting swamp, amazed by the heavenly microscopic life all around them.

the world does not need any more LOTR adaptations. the 2001 trilogy, flawed though it was, was lightning in a bottle and will never be captured again. LOTR does not need to be an endlessly fruitful "IP" franchise. let it rest on its laurels and make new things instead.
