A rare treat on @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social, June 22nd at 11:30pm - a Soho based German Krimi film from the pen of *Brian* Edgar Wallace, Das Phantom von Soho (1964). I talked about it (in the Edgar Wallace pub!) with Daniel Reifferscheid back in ep 12 📽️ #krimi sohobitespodcast.com/episode/12

In episode 52, out today, author Estella Tincknell talks about "Irina Palm" (2007) which stars #MarianneFaithfull as a grandmother who turns to sex work & Laura Watson tells us about the work of the English Collective of Prostitutes #ECP. This episode is NSFW! 📽️ sohobitespodcast.com/episode/52

Sorry for the slight delay this month - my guests are busy people & finding time can be tricky! The next ep will be out next week and is about a film described by @peterbradshaw1.bsky.social as "A gobsmackingly awful British film - awful in the way that somehow only British films can be". Harsh! 📽️

"King of the Underworld", the film @vicpratt.bsky.social discusses in this month's show, is actually 3 episodes of an old TV series “Inspector Morley, Late of Scotland Yard” stitched together. Each story ends abruptly. This is the end scene from story 1, cut out when the film was put together 📽️ 1/3

The film we're talking about in April's episode is "King of the Underworld" (1952) in which #TodSlaughter plays an absolute stinker of a fellow. In this opening scene he's such a rotter that one of his blackmail victims is driven to attempt suicide! 📽️ #ClassicBritishFilm #BritishNoir #rotter

Saw #TheBride! today. I can see why it was criticised for being shambolic, but I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Also, the fact that Bartleby & "I would prefer not to" is referenced repeatedly throughout the film shows, yet again, that Soho Bites remains right at the heart of zeitgeist 📽️

📽️ After announcing that our next film is #Bartleby (1970) it was brought to my attention that this is the name of a deceased horse in #TheArchers. Is there anybody out there who could summarise the horse's story? Wondering if it reflects that of Bartleby in the film. That would be very post modern.

Now that we've hit the 100 followers mark, perhaps it would be a good time to flag this up. Recently, @norloll.bsky.social and I were guest boffins on the new @BFI release of early Michael Powell films. I still haven’t been able to watch it though because I don’t own a Blue-ray player.
