This is what I’ve been putting my energy into lately, to help assuage the panic. I’m so proud of these kids and how they’re so proud of themselves! #TLsky #Edsky #middleschool #plantingseeds www.facebook.com/share/1GVzcs...

Which books were your favorites this year? Always so hard to choose! #TLsky

If someone can point me to screenshots of the guy who posted his first class boarding pass on SM and got massively trolled, so I can share the story with my digital literacy class, I’d be greatly appreciative! TIA

Today, at a quiet moment, a kid walked into our middle school library, took a huge deep breath, sighed deeply, and said, “Aaaah! There’s nothing like a fresh library!” My ❤️ #TLsky

Kids are allowed to hang out in our middle school library before school. Today I had one kid teaching himself to write in cursive via a YouTube video just for fun, a kid regaling a friend with the merits of Robinson Crusoe, and a pair arguing about some relatively complex genetics concepts. #TLsky

And completed a three-year Strategic Plan for our organization. This was all due to the hard work of many talented Vermont librarians, not only me. It's just incredible to look back and see how much a relatively small group of dedicated librarians can accomplish in a short time. #VSLA #VTEd

We created an intellectual freedom helpline for librarians facing materials challenges, developed a New England Librarian of the Month award (thank you, Rosen Publishing!), participated in our first Library Legislative Day, continued our new-librarian mentor program 4/

Rebecca Sofferman @sofferbrarian.bsky.social · 04/05/2025

We helped to introduce and pass a bill requiring all VT school districts to have a Materials Selection Policy and procedures that in effect prohibits book banning due to content such as race or identity, worked with the VT School Board Assoc to develop model policies and procedures from that law 3/

Rebecca Sofferman @sofferbrarian.bsky.social · 04/05/2025

We created new avenues for VT school librarians to get consortium pricing on some vital services, outlined a process for addressing librarian staffing EQS violations with the AoE, developed a relationship with a local indigenous tribe with important claims to ancestral lands in our region 2/

Yesterday was my last meeting as a member of the Vermont School Library Association executive board (President and then Past-President). It's been a very busy two years and looking back I'm incredibly proud of what our group has accomplished in this short time. 1/

Just for fun, who’s doing Book Madness at your school right now? Curious to see your brackets if you have them. Here’s ours this year, at the beginning of Round 3. I tried comparing characters this year instead of just books and it’s been SO fun! #TLsky #EDUsky #bookmadness

Thank you for this thread. My colleagues sometimes thank me for things I do and I often brush it off with “it’s nothing.” I think I should start saying something more along the lines of, “You’re welcome, it’s my job, I’m trained for this!”

My favorite sign was “Vance uses fake maple syrup.” The ULTIMATE burn for us Vermonters!

It’s not the first time I’ve been incredibly proud to be a Vermonter, and I’m sure it won’t be the last!!❤️

2/ Students have to find the books on the shelf to discover the category and decode the story. Id be hesitant to share my version without Joyce’s permission @skjohns.bsky.social if you talk to Joyce, tell her people are interested for her to share her lesson!

It’s from a book called Ban the Bird Units, I think. I’ve tweaked it over the years to tailor it to my library and make it more gender non conforming. I can’t find it easily online but it involves a worksheet where the words in the story are Dewey categories. 1/

It’s super old school, a lesson I learned from @skjohns.bsky.social back when I was student teaching. But Joyce Valenza’s 700 & Nancy lesson that teaches kids how to find books in the #nonfiction section still never disappoints! #TLsky #Edusky #schoollibraries

Exactly. We teach in so many ways and even the small things, like my crappy bulletin board, matter. All the tiny acts add up. I have to believe this.

A8 I can’t decide on one word but I want to say thank you so much, this was just what I needed to bear the post-vaca blues! It’s so easy to forget all the good things we do and focus on what we can’t get done, so I appreciate this reminder. Maybe my word is Gratitude! ❤️ #TLSkyChat

A6: I teach a media lit class in the fall semester. Students have to write their own news stories and we publish in our student-run newsletter. My next reading challenge will be a raffle reward to encourage students to write book reviews for our online catalog. Working with teachers. #TLSkyChat

@mrschureads.bsky.social I have a close family member with whom we went through something similar. This book hit close to home and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you sharing this story. Especially since boys are so underrepresented in books about eating disorders

A5 This is a digital space reset. I’m going to incorporate booktalks into my weekly videos, rather than just First Chapter Fridays. Here’s my first one - would love to get students to help #TLSkyChat. @mrschureads.bsky.social you’re in this one: youtu.be/8IaL3VC2fvQ?...

A2 I do Blind Date With a Book (the students love wrapping up the books), Book Madness (brackets), and a schoolwide summer reading program. I also do weekly First Chapter Friday videos, but this year I’m going to try adding some Book Buzz booktalks to the mix. #TLSkyChat
