Well, SVP has "Volk" in its name, that helps. "Volk" refers to common traits among a group a humen (culture, language). Such homogeneity seems important for the somewhat nationalistic SVP. So the term fits imho. While SP was indeed not the party of the people, they were the party of the workers.

If any party is the "voice of the people", then it should be the one with the most votes. That was not always SVP. SP had this role from 1930-1980 (competing with FDP). SVP was only around 10%-15% until the 1990ies.

I respectfully disagree. PFZ with MaxQuotas is possible. Liechtenstein has it. Switzerland has/had the Ventilklausel for newly added EU member states. They even applied it in 2012. So it's a matter of political negotiation to install limits to PFZ.

True, it was in conflict. That's why they stated that any conflicting contracts need a "Neuverhandlung". If it can't be achieved by then, then the Bundesrat rules by "Verordnungen." Nothing about "Kündigung". That was added to the Begrenzungsinitiative. SVP gambled too high and lost.

Volksinitiativen do not need the votes of the Nationalrat, but of the Volk. But I agree, its not unexpected considering the average success of Volksinitiativen is about 10.8%, so SVP with 2/12=16.6% is above average.

I'd rather say "specification" than "implications". 10 mio and canceling PFZ is a specification of Begrenzungsintiative and was not part of Masseneinwanderungsinititiative. Also: The Härtefallklausel was apparently ok for the people.

The new law removes those restrictions, so no need to have reasons for an abortion after week 24. This is not an ethical balancing between the two conflicting rights: The mother's right for self-determination and the unborn's child for life. No ethic board in EU would advocate such onesidedness.

Consent? Shall the fetus ask for consent to use mama's uterus? I consider Ethics Boards in Europe humanitarian and they advise to allow abortion until a certain week (1-12), but after week 24 there must be serious reasons (e.g. mother's life is in danger). That was pretty much the law before Healey.

We need to keep a balance between the mother's right for self-determination and the unborn child's right to live. Btw, about "religious beliefs": In Europe, no country allows such an unrestricted/unconditional abortion until birth - and Europe has no bible belt and is far less religious.
