Depictions of death and a riot of colour at Frieda Kahlo, Tate Modern. Her painting of The Suicide of Dorothy Hale is extraordinary, breaking through the limits of the frame and dripping onto it. Like a comic book, it shows the different stages of her death. Both dispassionate and deeply moving.

More works from the Frieda Kahlo exhibition at Tate Modern - particularly fond of the Tequila bottle labels. The final rooms deal with art and commercial products influenced by her.

Miscellaneous highlights from the fabulous Frieda Kahlo exhibition, Tate Modern, London. The downside is that there are relatively few of her own works on show, but there are some fabulous photographs and works that were influenced by her or pay tribute.

Terrifying Movellan war dance. Those disco moves could wipe out Skaro’s finest.

Well, I guess it’s appropriate…Star Trek as drawn by my favourite ever artist, Frank Bellamy. We’re more used to his version of Thunderbirds and Doctor Who.

Belgian war refugees being fed in the east of Amsterdam in the docks by the Ij, 1914. Superb, haunting photo.

Two Women on the Peat Moor, my favourite picture from the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam. I love this aspect of Dutch art: a slice of “working class” life as ordinary women are silhouetted cutting peat for fuel. Far more interesting than paintings of the rich and royal.

Loved him as Dr Terror, though for nostalgic reasons mainly - the first horror film I ever saw. But his best performance was surely on tv, in the great 50s BBC version of 1984. Loved the actor so much I visited his gorgeous house in Whitstable (and the surprisingly good pub named in his honour).

It’s brilliant beyond compare. Watched it once as a teenager, once as an adult, now looking forward to watching it as an old git. Possibly the strongest cast ever gathered on tv, and the studio bound video means you focus on the characters, not the setting. Livia just drips evil.

Love the bust of William Blake in Poets’ Corner, Westminster Abbey. Definitely gave him the look of a stoned and paranoid Robert Crumb drawing. After all, didn’t the world’s greatest ever poet have visions of angels in trees?

Much as I love this, the version put on at the Barbican 20 years ago, starring Russell Tovey, didn’t just match the book for quality, it actually added to it. The first half closed with a stunning scene in which the corpses on the crashed plane begin to move, at least in TinTin’s mind. Haunting!

I love the way the copper looks a) Off-kilter, pissed, struggling to stand up straight b) like he’s a secret member of a fascist group like the National Front or Combat 18. Nice bit of social realism on a text book cover.

The Weatherspoon’s pub named after Whitstable’s most famous resident (except for the oysters): The Peter Cushing. A beautiful art deco cinema - unexpectedly it’s a brilliant and faithful conversion, almost as delightful Cushing himself (apart from the “no dogs” rule!).
