Hey fellow #twitch partners, Would you be interested in a discord bot that pushes server alerts when team members go live? I have this right now for the vfur server, but I’m curious if other people would want such a feature. I’m thinking of licensing it out. DM me here or discord if interested.

I was positing this a little while ago. I think most people just have their sorts set up that it’s based on viewer count, and people don’t look past the 100. Which I think is fine, but if Twitch suddenly made you defend partner, holy shit there better be an uprising because their algo is weak

It also (from what I can tell unless the change is in another target branch) does not turn on the chrome sandbox (again, speculative, cause I see the sandbox flags set to off and mobile has cache delay). Not that any of this discussion matters now, the damage has already been started.

Should you update now? If you don’t suffer from the XSS bugs, you don’t need to. Updating is nice for peace of mind, but an attacker NEEDS that XSS window to actually harm you. No XSS window = no vulnerability. You can get the beta below. Cheers.

Their attack would be more limited to getting you banned off the streaming platform by replacing the entire stream with TOS unfriendly things (like gore) or attempting to get your OBS js object (which allows for doing things like ending stream [depending on source permissions]).

Yes, OBS Beta 33.0b4 does have a CEF update. This fixed the CVE that allows an attacker to get into your operating system. However it DOES NOT turn on sandboxing nor does it fix any broken overlays. If your overlay has XSS bugs (test in original thread) then someone can still troll you.

If your overlay has XSS bugs in it, updating OBS just stops an attacker from getting access to the OS. They can still troll you and get you banned on any streaming platform until that XSS is fixed. In the thread, I posted a link to a github gist that you can use which will reveal any problems

And it’s clear these technical notes won’t be spread by the author. If the XSS is still there in your overlay, someone can do full stream takeovers (post gore/TOS violations), attempt to gain access to the OBS js object (so they can attempt to end stream) and other stupid shit. Overlays = key prob

Ideally, this would turn the sandbox on and update CEF to include the chrome update from about a year ago. But I haven’t read the patch notes yet, and a bug fix will not stop a stream takeover via XSS. Your overlays would be the main problem, you’d need to test them STILL. Updating OBS isn’t a fix

Honestly, I’m disappointed. I’ve mentioned how I felt on stream, because he did literally zero damage control at all here. On Twitter he got community noted and the majority of people ragged on him in the comments. So he knew he had faulty info. Especially after 9hrs. Just decided to do nothing.
