Konsi would be happy to attend again this year, making sure everyone gets enough water and snacks.

It's been awhile since I posted a photo of the physical copy of one of these. I'm sure most people know that most of my art is physical, but it's good to re-exhibit that from time to time. I do Wish I knew how to make an iphone capture colour correctly.

I like designs that just start with one simple shape, although in this case nature is picking the shape.

With a billion dollars in marketing, Meta might manage to make this thing half as popular as friend AI.
A large subway billboard for the friendAI pendant, covered in graffiti that crosses out the word "friend", says "AI is not your friend" a stick figure saying "we don't need AI we need each other" and "Do mutual aid or volunteer for a community garden, you will meet cool people!"

Don't believe your OC has to be a perfect design off the bat. Character design is a creative process just like writing a story or making a piece of music. Your first design is a "first draft" and it's not set in stone. You're not committed to anything. You can and should evolve the design over time

Here's a second surprise bonus winner for @smurfysmurf77.bsky.social I really enjoyed your design and hope I did a good job! If you'd like to see the WIP stages (pencil sketch, linework etc) drop me a DM and I'll give you a link. (I didn't have a name for her, so I made one up for the file.)

Here's an example. This is a storyboard drawing that Rian Johnson made for Knives out, alongside the actual scene from the film. That simple sketch is all the director needed to convey the idea, and he trusted his team to do the rest. If he needed adjustments later, he could tell them.
Two images.

The top image shows a simplified stick figure drawing of a woman with a neutral tone sitting in a chair, surrounded by a large number of knives pointing in her direction. It's amateurish, but it conveys the emotion of the scene.

The bottom image is a still from the knives out movie, showing actress Ana de Armas sitting in the centre of the frame while hundreds of knives are seemingly suspended in air, all pointing towards her head.

For anyone arriving late, here's the post that was quoted, so you can still follow what Ben's saying:
A text post that reads as follows:

"bsky isnt ready for this but, if you need a reason to not use words like "clanker" that isn't "well its kinda not a great thing to do" (it isn't) imagine this:

At the end of the day, it's always been this, just change the outgroup once a decade.
A cartoon. Three men sit in a room. One man sits to the left wearing a T-shirt, head on his hand staring down at the table.

One man to the right is dressed as a construction worker or builder in high vis and a hard hat. He looks pensive, and in front of him there is a plate with a single cookie.

Between them sits Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch has a plate stacked high with cookies in front of him. He looks the construction worker in the eye while pointing at the other man and says "Careful mate... that foreigner wants your cookie!"

My local art shop, tindalls (Cambridge UK) sell playing-card sized art cards in packs of 50. They're 325GSM and a nice surface to draw on, and pretty cheap. That'd also be a great resource. I normally use them to make power cards for DnD4e, my wife's in a campaign right now, so here's an example.
A photo of a set of playing-card sized art cards laid out on a table.

The middle of the image shows an A5 image of a DnD character "Lumen" who is a mousy librarian looking human women with a manic grin and a huge axe.

Below the artwork are some of the implements that were used to create the art, a unipin pigment liner, a Spoke Design mechanical pencil, a Caran D'ache Luminance pencil and a Faber Castell Polychromos pencil.

In the top right corner is a little card that says "Certificate for: 1 character design consult, 1 set full art powercards." These cards were made as a gift.

I saw some papers a while ago showing that a high proportion of the outputs of the better models highly resemble a single original image, or a "paintover" of a single image... but of course unless you're familiar with that exact image you'll be unable to tell that. Here's an example:

Hello, I'm ahdok. I draw comics, cute characters and DnD stuff. Here's a little of my art. I draw my stuff with traditional media, bristol board, pigment liner, colour pencils.
Konsi the goblin, dressed as a witch for Halloween.A comic resembling a CAPTCHA challenge, it shows two guards standing in front of two doors, and asks the reader to select all squares containing "guards that always lie."

I generally trust Faber Castell and have no reason to doubt their lightfastness ratings. However, I have some swatches up on the window to test lightfastness, so I might as well toss the new polychromos colours up too. We'll see if anything weird happens, even though we expect nothing exciting.

Found you through Communani, always like new artists to follow, and congrats on the 1k! This is Konsi, and she regularly changes her clothes (although she likes fancy dresses in white or green with gold accents), and she regularly changes her hair (although she usually has a lot of hair.)

This is a simple, testable, hypothesis: "Fixative sprays can protect your artwork from fading in sunlight." Sarah was thorough in her documentation, which gives me a solid starting point. I can take a few colours that faded in her tests, a few that didn't, and test them in similar conditions.
A photograph showing some swatches of various colour pencils, and some fixative sprays.

ahdok @socksandpuppets.com · 10/08/2026
My initial observations are interesting. *some* of the old art on my wall has faded, and other art hasn't. I think the difference is that after the first few years of drawing, I picked up some "fixative spray" that I started applying to any piece I drew that I intended to be displayed. This stuff.
