Cestode infection is linked to transcriptional shifts in neuropeptide signalling and caste-specific ageing pathways in a social insect - BMC Genomics
Social insects are key models for phenotypic plasticity, as queens and workers show striking differences in behaviour and lifespan despite sharing the same genome. Neuropeptides are central regulators...

Our PhD student Max Bolder @boldest-ant.bsky.social published a very fascinating story about the vampire #ants Stigmatomma pallipes. Queens may look alike but they differ in behavior and gene expression. Do you want to know more? Check below! 🐜

@romanzug.bsky.social and @socialinsectlab.bsky.social thinking about colony dynamics! Resource variation can mask tradeoffs, but here we show that even if that *doesn't* vary, lucky starts in colony life can lead to better trajectories and if so, a tradeoff is often undetectable despite being real.

Is it stressful to be surrounded by infected individuals, even if you're not infected yourself? Might this even increase mortality (if others could have performed work but now won't)? Sounds plausible, but we don't have evidence from very many systems. Here's one! academic.oup.com/evolut/advan...
