It will not take him that long. Merely a few minutes and one reassembled Intellitron later, he emerged from the Party Car, wiping his hands on a cloth, in search of Dan Feng.

If he can afford a few moments of patience to allow his husband to finish up and piece Shush back together, he would be rewarded with his undivided attention.

He has been in the Party Car, tinkering with Shush the robot all morning.

Turning his face, he placed a kiss to his love's cheek.

He sensed the approach through their shared bracers before he heard the soft footsteps just behind him, leaning back into the embrace as though it were expected. Yingxing rested his forearms over the ones coiled around his waist, careful not to get his soot-stained hands on Dan Feng's white robes.

He would find a fresh cup of hot tea on the bedside, left behind just long enough that it should have cooled perfectly by the time he had awakened.

"The mighty Yǐnyuè jūn, bested by an itchy tail." His teasing was good-natured, lifting their joined hands to press a kiss to Dan Feng's gloved knuckles. "Come to me if it becomes unbearable."

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

"I do not doubt for one second that he would." Perhaps that is precisely where Dan Heng got it from. "On your go, back to your doting husband."

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

"So, you're keeping a tally." A quiet amusement remained in his expression as Dan Heng finally stood, gloved hands brushing down his clothes. "Quite the catalogue of grievances."

"Of course." A soft laugh passed his lips, the corners of his mouth lifting at Dan Heng's complete nonchalance. "You weren't jealous, were you?" he asked lightly, a playful lilt in his words.

Brow lifted, clearly surprised by the sudden weight plopped unceremoniously into his lap, though understanding was quick to settle in with a slow, amused grin. "Wars have been started for less, you know."

"So brave." Tone gently teasing, rubbing the residue of the balm into his own hands once Dan Feng's wounds had been taken care of. "Try not to touch it for a few days."

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

He knew well the kind of reaction it would elicit, having been on the receiving end of it several times when their relationship was only just budding. "I know. Sorry." His clean hand rubbed soothing circles into the small of his back, carefully finishing his work on his tail.

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

With his free hand, he took Dan Feng's tail into his lap before carefully applying the salve to the irritated scales, methodical and precise with each passing touch.

They may have been destroyed after years in the forge, but he would always handle Dan Feng with careful reverence. Leaving his side for a moment, he retrieved a pot of balm. Scooping a small amount of the ointment out, he warmed it between his fingers.

"Only mildly concerned." His gaze drifted momentarily across the angry, red patches Dan Feng had been picking at along his tail before lifting back up to the dragon's face. "It looks painful. Will you allow me to put a salve on it?"

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

His answering hum suggested he only half believed the half lie. "Even so, give them a break." He took a seat at the dragon's side, keeping hold of Dan Feng's hands if only to give him something to occupy them.

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

It took a different kind of strength to admit vulnerability, fault, or pain, and Dan Feng had done all three in one go. "So let it hurt, there is no shame in that. It is not a failing, nor proof of weakness."

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

He drew him closer, letting Dan Feng's tail remain curled around his waist without comment, simply accepting the silent plea within it. "They conditioned you into believing that numbness was a strength. But there is strength too in admitting that something hurts."

"As for what the Preceptors taught you..." he began, a flicker of old anger passing across his features before it melted away, focusing instead on the present and what was before him.

The words left him almost beneath his breath, carrying no pity but a tenderness that seemed to ache around the edges like a bruise. His arms came around him more securely, one hand settling between his shoulder blades, thumb brushing back and forth absently ——

𝘐𝘵 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘴... Such simple words, offered reluctantly, pried loose from a place that had been kept sealed for years. The quiet admission seemed to catch somewhere beneath Yingxing's ribs, briefly fracturing the composure he'd been holding. "I know."

His hands lay over Dan Feng's, gently and wordlessly peeling them away from raw, aggravated scales.

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

He leaned forward, resting his forehead gently against Dan Feng's. "I would rather have you place those things in my hands than watch you clutch them so tightly that they cut you open."

001

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

"I don't want you retreating somewhere I cannot reach you." His gaze remained upon him, quiet and steady, as though he could see every thread of sorrow Dan Feng had spent years winding around himself, and the vulnerability that they bore.

100

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

Years spent trying to survive his wounds had taught him to turn pain into something sharp enough that no-one could get close enough to touch it. Turning it on himself and anyone who dared come near, sometimes forgetting that what he was wishing for so desperately was something they both wanted.

100

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

"You don't have to carry this alone." There was something almost solemn in the way he said it, as though the words were a vow rather than reassurance, patient as the morning sunlight moving across the floor. "You need not spare me. Let me bear some of it with you."

100

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

His thumb brushed along the swell of his cheek in a slow, reverent swipe—a small, grounding touch amidst the weight of everything that sat upon his shoulders. Violet hues searched the face that peered back up at him, soft gaze holding Dan Feng's unwaveringly.

100

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

Lifting a hand, he placed two fingers beneath the dragon's chin and gave a gentle press, tilting his face up towards him. "Look at me."

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

"You were hurting long before Dan Heng ever came into the picture. He only happened to touch upon that old wound. That isn't his fault, and it doesn't make you cruel for reacting to a raw nerve being struck. What matters is that you can see where the two became tangled."

100

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

He was quiet for a long moment, half-stunned, and grappling with something that twisted in his gut at the quiet admission. "A-Feng, it's not wrong to feel hurt." For him to admit any sort of fault was significant, especially when the admission is tied to something so deeply painful for him.

Running a hand along his back in slow, soothing patterns. "I'm aware. Is there life within them? I think the point he has been making is that there isn't, and so they are nothing but eggs."
