He has been in the Party Car, tinkering with Shush the robot all morning.

He sensed the approach through their shared bracers before he heard the soft footsteps just behind him, leaning back into the embrace as though it were expected. Yingxing rested his forearms over the ones coiled around his waist, careful not to get his soot-stained hands on Dan Feng's white robes.

He would find a fresh cup of hot tea on the bedside, left behind just long enough that it should have cooled perfectly by the time he had awakened.

"The mighty Yǐnyuè jūn, bested by an itchy tail." His teasing was good-natured, lifting their joined hands to press a kiss to Dan Feng's gloved knuckles. "Come to me if it becomes unbearable."

"I do not doubt for one second that he would." Perhaps that is precisely where Dan Heng got it from. "On your go, back to your doting husband."

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

"So, you're keeping a tally." A quiet amusement remained in his expression as Dan Heng finally stood, gloved hands brushing down his clothes. "Quite the catalogue of grievances."

These dragons could not be more clearly cut from the same cloth. "Ah, but his was accidental, while yours was retaliatory. Now, up you get."

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

"Of course." A soft laugh passed his lips, the corners of his mouth lifting at Dan Heng's complete nonchalance. "You weren't jealous, were you?" he asked lightly, a playful lilt in his words.

Brow lifted, clearly surprised by the sudden weight plopped unceremoniously into his lap, though understanding was quick to settle in with a slow, amused grin. "Wars have been started for less, you know."

"So brave." Tone gently teasing, rubbing the residue of the balm into his own hands once Dan Feng's wounds had been taken care of. "Try not to touch it for a few days."

He knew well the kind of reaction it would elicit, having been on the receiving end of it several times when their relationship was only just budding. "I know. Sorry." His clean hand rubbed soothing circles into the small of his back, carefully finishing his work on his tail.

They may have been destroyed after years in the forge, but he would always handle Dan Feng with careful reverence. Leaving his side for a moment, he retrieved a pot of balm. Scooping a small amount of the ointment out, he warmed it between his fingers.

"Only mildly concerned." His gaze drifted momentarily across the angry, red patches Dan Feng had been picking at along his tail before lifting back up to the dragon's face. "It looks painful. Will you allow me to put a salve on it?"

His answering hum suggested he only half believed the half lie. "Even so, give them a break." He took a seat at the dragon's side, keeping hold of Dan Feng's hands if only to give him something to occupy them.

𝘐𝘵 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘴... Such simple words, offered reluctantly, pried loose from a place that had been kept sealed for years. The quiet admission seemed to catch somewhere beneath Yingxing's ribs, briefly fracturing the composure he'd been holding. "I know."

His hands lay over Dan Feng's, gently and wordlessly peeling them away from raw, aggravated scales.

His thumb brushed along the swell of his cheek in a slow, reverent swipe—a small, grounding touch amidst the weight of everything that sat upon his shoulders. Violet hues searched the face that peered back up at him, soft gaze holding Dan Feng's unwaveringly.

He was quiet for a long moment, half-stunned, and grappling with something that twisted in his gut at the quiet admission. "A-Feng, it's not wrong to feel hurt." For him to admit any sort of fault was significant, especially when the admission is tied to something so deeply painful for him.

Running a hand along his back in slow, soothing patterns. "I'm aware. Is there life within them? I think the point he has been making is that there isn't, and so they are nothing but eggs."

"Do you truly believe that?" He gathered him up in his arms, tucking him beneath his chin.

"Nobody is asking you to agree, my love." Searching for ways to soften this, without it feeling like a betrayal. "You don't have to change how you feel about it. Just… alter what you do with those feelings when he's around."

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

"I understand. You don't have to like or agree with it."

Lips pressed into a thin line, fingers giving his hand a gentle squeeze. "I wouldn't say 'overreacting', no. You're entitled to your discomfort. However, I would also say that he is entitled to do with them what he wishes."

Joined hands raised, he pressed a kiss against gloved knuckles. "You look troubled. What's the matter?"

Never too far. He knew that look he wore, a tempest brewing behind turquoise eyes. "A-Feng?"

He could wear a frilly apron if he wanted to. "Anything?"

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

"While that is true, the principle is the same." He spoke in a way that suggested he would not be accepting any further comments on the matter. Dan Feng attempted something he was unsure about, and kept trying until he got it right rather than giving in to defeat.

"Only three? Do you know how many times I have scrapped weapons before they were perfect? I'd say you're doing rather well to succeed after three attempts." Lips tilted into a grin, chin coming down to rest in his palm. "Who would say no to that? There is one condition, however."

000

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

"Ah, but the third was perfect. You're a quick study." Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks? "I suppose this means I can look forward to breakfast in bed from now on, hm?"

"You're being modest." He took another bite with a pleased hum, divvying up another portion to feed to Dan Feng, cupping his hand just beneath his chin. "Did you enjoy making them?" he asked, genuinely curious. It was not a task everyone enjoyed, though the end product was often worth the effort.

‍ ☄ ‍ ‍ ‍应星 ‍‍ ‍ @soaringcomet.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

There was no shame in failing. He kept trying until getting it right. That fact alone had was enough to warm his heart. Cutting a decent chunk from the stack, he took a bite and savoured the balanced flavours. "Mm... It's really good." Getting another forkful, he held it out for Dan Feng to try.

His gaze passed between the plate and his beloved, leaning forward to breathe in the sweet and pleasant scent of fresh pancakes. "Did you make these?"
