The season 3 storyline where Eli’s brother-in-law was scammed out of his savings by Eli’s doomsday prepper products is no doubt inspired by Jim Bakker’s post-prison ministry, and the season 2 storyline about the Christian resort bears striking similarities to the Bakkers’ Heritage USA resort.

This is a good reason why I wish they’d make the finale have just two HGs like in the earlier seasons. They could have fit in an eviction and extended jury questions to the F2 via video link in the span of these last 6 days. The pacing of the last couple of seasons has not been good.

I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to read after I finish Infinite Jest. I’ve also been reading from my collection of ebooks and have finished 11 of them so far this year. So, I’ve gotten a lot of reading in, even if my physical books haven’t gotten so much attention.

Just checking in. I’m doing okay since Roxy passed. I have plans to crochet a memorial doll of her as part of my grieving process. Days are mostly boring at the moment. Still reading “Infinite Jest”, but I crossed page 800 and have about 170 pages to go in the main story.

Today we say goodbye to an icon, a unique talent, and a woman who truly lived the messages of love, kindness, compassion, and generosity that she so deeply spoke of. She earned every single flower that she got, and influenced a whole boatload of musicians and songwriters. Rest easy, Dolly.

I wasn’t expecting Bulgaria to win, but I was pleasantly surprised! Looks like Finland will have to wait another year, but I have to admit that Bulgaria *brought it* when it mattered the most! Here’s to hoping for a party next year in (all likelihood) Sofia, Bulgaria! #Eurovision

* Malta 🇲🇹: I heard no nerves or shakiness in those vocals at all. I really liked the animations in the archways of the set piece. * Norway 🇳🇴: I’m not crazy about this song, but performing last will probably help him in the televote.

* Albania 🇦🇱: Having subtitles was a very smart move. I also love how the choir was incorporated into the background screen. (I don’t think that’s his actual mother. The woman onstage with him, I’m told, is a well known actress in Albania.)

* Ukraine 🇺🇦: Delta Goodrem is a tough act to follow, but I think Leléka holds her own here. * United Kingdom 🇬🇧: Look Mum I’m at Eurovision! 🤭 This is probably favorite staging of the five automatic finalists! (Italy is a close second.) It told a story and also had one of his modular synthesizers.

* Australia 🇦🇺: It’s either her or Søren winning the jury vote in this show. Delta’s not my cup of tea personally, but she’s a top notch performer and it shows.

* Austria 🇦🇹: Did about as I expected for being the host country. It won’t win, but it does get points for being fun. * Latvia 🇱🇻: This is a song that could have probably used subtitles. The breaking glass kind of helps with context. Her vocals were good, though.

* Cyprus 🇨🇾: She’s dancing on a literal table! But is she shaking her hips to tsiftetéli? She had a slight lyrical misstep and shaky vocals, but I think she’ll still get televote support.

* Switzerland 🇨🇭: You can hear how unhinged her song’s narrator is in her vocals. (It’s not a love song!) Staging was a bit abstract for me.

* France 🇫🇷: Pretty well-executed. Certainly an improvement over France’s staging last year. * Armenia 🇦🇲: My favorite staging of this show so far. Simón’s experience performing in live theaters really paid off.

* Luxembourg 🇱🇺: Going for the Måns Zelmerlöw strategy of interacting with the graphics. The song itself just doesn’t connect. * Czechia 🇨🇿: I’m not super crazy into the song, but I like the “hall of mirrors” staging.
