To return to the post further up the chain, the fact that blind people don't know what a sunset looks like either doesn't make *them* not conscious, so clearly the consciousness isn't stored in knowing what a sunset looks like. It has to be something else.

It is in fact entirely relevant - "it's impossible for something to be conscious if it lacks X trait" is straightforwardly refuted by the existence of human beings who lack X trait but are, in fact, uncontroversially conscious.
