Being top dog in a metagame means people are coming into the metagame thinking about strategies to specifically counter it. Gal not winning area cup is a big deal, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's not good. In this case, it means it's SO good that comps become specialized against it

This is a feature, not a bug. Every competitive scene I've ever seen talks about soloq being the most effective form of practice out there. Tournaments by and large emulate this since that's the format people actually play. At least until a scene overpowers its solo game (we are not even close)

When I saw this question posed this morning, my gut reaction was "yes," but I'm starting to rethink based on my thought process above. We have people talking about how the most effective practice method is soloq, and lots of other games are modeled (sometimes institutionally) around solo experience

We see this in Splatoon as well. Turf is not included in competitive solo queues, so is absent from the western scene. Map/mode lists are not subject to this, since there are ways to play solo while adhering to map/mode restrictions. Also because the game often changes less around those parameters

Smogon? For a while it was rulesets since singles didn't really have great support in a "queuing" space. Simulators reinforce this Rivals? Ban system exists in competitive solo, mirrored in tournament play Smash? A little more complicated but broadly doesn't have bans since solo doesn't either.

Lots of people talking about other games and their corresponding formats. From my perspective, a tournament/competitive setting and community approximates the solo queuing experience since that's the effective form of practice around which it's fair to base the average player's understanding.
