Expanding out from just books, this summer's quarterly round up includes video games, music, TV shows, and more, and I try to make these round ups feel less like an annotated bibliography.

Summer 2026 Behind-the-Scenes
For this quarterly review, I’ve decided to make it a more meandering walk through my brain and what has drawn my attention over the last few months.

"Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die" by @pangur-and-grim / @greerstothers.bsky.social was so good I fell in a creek, while reading, because I wasn't paying attention while crossing said creek. I was simply too invested in the hilarious gay disaster unfolding on the pages before me.

Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die, by Greer Stothers
This book is not waterproof, nor even water resistant. This is of course completely normal for books.

This spring's behind the scenes readings come largely from the class I took on queer literature of the early modern period. Very fun class 10/10 would take again.

Quarterly Behind the Scenes Reading Spring 2026
This is mostly readings from the queer early modern literature class I took this past semester. It was very excellent. I loved (almost) every minute of it. I did end up leaving out most of the academic articles we read this semester, except a few articles that I really fell in love with. This is partially so this doesn't get unwieldy long, but also for curation.

Winter 2024-2025 Behind-the-Scenes
Introduction and updates: Thank you for bearing with me and allowing me a quiet March so I didn’t burn out terribly following a deeply strenuous February. I've been in a literature course this semester, which has been a challenge as it's been a long time since I've read literature at the pace required for the class. In undergrad I could read a novel a week, and, in fact, did for a while for this very blog before I moved from weekly to bi-weekly to the current monthly schedule.

Opal Charm: Light of Civil Dawn by Miri Castor
Opal Charm: Light of Civil Dawn, the final installment in the Opal Charm saga, is a story about truth, lies, belief, and suspicion. A familial legacy of magic coming together, events set in motion to quickly to fully react to, and time is running out. But let’s rewind before we get there, because it’s 2025 and this series has been going since 2016.

Ultimately, I decided to a review of a short story that I’ve read before—one I actually talked about it briefly during a behind-the-scenes quarterly reading round up a few years ago. “Blood Libel” by Leigh Ann Hussey is…
