Actor and director with gorgeous hair. Decent Mario Kart player. Sociopath. Ruthlessly left wing (life and football) - a touch of madness, we used to make steel. www.smweissbach.com

50 hours into Elden Ring and my opinion still stands, I don’t think it’s that good a game. It certainly has fascinating moments, but it’s best when it’s closest to Dark Souls in dungeons and castles. I find the overworld exploration mostly bland and ultimately not that fun.

Thought I’d just play Dark Souls for a while until I get to play Elden Ring, which I’d presumed I’d fall in love with instantly. But while I binged my way through DS, Elden Ring hasn’t really clicked yet. I’m not even sure, if I really like the game all that much. To me, the open world formula

A few hours in and I must say, Elden Ring has failed to click with me in a way that the original Dark Souls instantly did. There’s too much to do, too much inventory Tetris and it lacks the streamlined beauty of Dark Souls.

The Steam controller is great, well built and perfect for relaxed gaming. Why Steam uses the annoying PlayStation placement of the left stick though is beyond me. It’s uncomfortable at best and puts the d-Pad out of reach for games that use it as an inventory. The Switch/Xbox layout is superior

Started reading Snow Crash, because it’s a book that tech CEOs love and supposedly misread. So I was curious, but now I’m genuinely flabbergasted. How could anyone possibly misread this? That’s like thinking Hitchhiker’s Guide is a textbook about space travel, instead of a satire

If you ask ChatGPT how you would’ve looked in the 80s, you would’ve voted for Reagan or Thatcher and considered yourself a rebel in doing so.

I love how AI proponents think that everyone’s gripe with AI was that it looks bad, unrealistic, sloppy, and is exclusively for losers, can be fixed by it looking better, more realistic, and less sloppy. It’s still for losers.

A professional actor cares about what they do, an amateur actor cares about how they look.

It is impossible to use generative AI and be left wing. Both are incompatible. You can either render your soul hollow and in action support the wealth accumulation of a handful of soulless ghouls or be left wing, same as you could have been left wing or iron the dress uniforms of the SS, never both.

Odysseus’ return, but it’s the only millennial in a group of boomers and gen Z who can rotate a pdf. Is that something?

While Nolan‘s The Odyssey is without a doubt the loudest adaptation of the Odyssey, The Return must be the quietest one. The dialogue barely penetrates the sound mix, a whisper in the wind.

I think that most people who complain that Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey isn’t loyal to the source material have either not read the Odyssey recently (or at all) or watched the film while on their phones. It is as close an adaptation as it can be while catering to our modern sensibilities.

I think maybe I’d prefer a film not entirely shot in IMAX but the actors actually be in focus in the dialogue scenes

Re-reading The Odyssey is marvellous, because one tends to forget that the glorious adventures of Odysseus are only mentioned in passing in 3/24 books, while most of the story is a soap opera, feasting, Odysseus playing pranks, and ultimately going postal.

If democracy makes it out of this big tech fascist takeover, there’s only one lesson to be learned: governments need 00-programmes sending agents (with democratic oversight of course) to kill eccentric billionaire supervillains, so they don’t become problems on a global scale.

Urban Sports Club has the smartest pricing model in all of subscriptions raising prices only for new subscribers, so paying members are incentivised to not cancel their subscription, even if it’s dormant for a bit. Had Netflix, Disney, et al adopted that, most people would never cancel

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"
