Looking forward to using this textbook for my introductory biostatistics course this fall, as the first author was a member of my PhD supervisory committee and the second was my MSc and PhD supervisor #biostatistics

Was heartened to see that Barrier Lake’s level is still relatively low (higher than it was on Saturday, but still a good amount of buffer potential)

Are we really still doing this? 😡 You might have to expand the image to see the “scale” at the top
Screenshot of mobile game ad. At the top is a “scale” of your, uh, ability in playing the game, including D*mb, Normal, Smart, Genius. I obviously have a problem with the first word

Spotted this lovely large boulder the size of a small boulder on a recent walk through Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park

So many fails in this spam conference invite — among other things, it’s not every day that I get addressed as “Dear <paper title>” #AcademicSky

Unexpected consequence of working out for over a year: a stack of clothing (mostly pants, some sweaters) that no longer fits. Too tight in the thighs, waist, and forearms! Guess I will be clothing shopping in the new year! 💪😁

This discovery from a journal review invite is too good not to share. I checked out their site & they offer a "no quality compromised" expedited review process out of the goodness of their, uh, (checks notes) bank account, asking only an extra $30 USD. And I love the Gmail address they sniped 😆 🧪
"Charge for emergency processing (Fast-track processing): Sometimes authors require emergency processing of manuscript due to strict deadline of interview / promotion etc. Fast-track peer review does not mean inferior quality peer review or compromising of the peer review process. During Fast-track peer review, the same high quality of the normal peer review is maintained.
...
Therefore, for such kind of emergency processing of manuscripts, authors are required to pay INR 1000 or US$ 30 as additional charge.

On the occasion of International Mountain Day: mountains are the world’s “water towers”, supplying ~50% of the world’s population with fresh water, and have become my favourite place to play and conduct research

I first started doing fieldwork a little over 32 years ago (!). Especially in the past two years — after essentially not being able to do any during the almost six years that I was an Associate Dean — I appreciate it more than ever ❤️ 🐟 🦫 🏔️

Alberta gets a bad rap (justifiably, in many instances), but it’s also home to some incredibly beautiful landscapes. Grateful that I get to live and work on these lands
