I'm replaying Silent Hill f this month and eventually I want to get all of the endings. The first time I was kind of mixed because I liked the characters, environment and story, but the weapons degraded too quickly imo. They have since patched it, and I'm enjoying this playthrough a lot more.

I bought an Avenue 6 controller for my Core Grafx because as a kid I had Street Fighter 2 for a while before I got a 6-button pad for that, and it scared me to play it with 2 buttons too.

The early days of Raspberry Pi emulation were like that too. Now you can just flash an sd card, copy your games and you're good to go. But then you would need to run scripts and do a lot of keyboard setup. Hopefully this follows a similar user experience journey.

It mostly is, but it's geared more towards PlayStation with ports to use original PS1 controllers and memory cards. You can use other cores, and it comes with a lot, but I'm mostly using it for PlayStation. Minimal setup, but not plug and play for sure.

Yes, I'm using the console mode, and it is a lot easier to navigate than the out-of-the-box experience. I think they streamlined it as much as they could, but I feel a little deceived by how it was pitched as plug and play when I'm digging out a usb keyboard to type in my wifi info lol.

I treated myself to a Superstation One, and overall I like it, but it was nowhere near the level of "plug and play" it was pitched as. There are a lot of steps to getting up and running and none of them are difficult, but if you're considering getting one, just know that it's a bit tedious to setup.

I love how every "it broke containment" anecdote about these things leaves out that they allow them to run curl commands and removed any safe guards that would have easily prevented it. Accountability isn't really a tech bro trait.

This is such a golden age of survival/psychological horror for both Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The new RE movie and SH Townfall dropping around the same time is awesome on its own, not to mention RE9 and Silent Hill f which were both great too.

I just got a USB-C to psp adapter that makes it very convenient to charge because now it uses the same cable as my phone. I wish I knew this existed earlier!

That's definitely the way it used to be, but now most carts run on any DS model. Usually they only run DS games/apps and not 3DS games/apps, and some require some setup, but for the DS they are pretty plug and play.

If you just want to play homebrew, there are flashcarts that will let you play or develop games and apps for the DS. You don't have to mod your system either, just copy what you want to play to a micro SD card, pop it in the cart, and it will run on any DS/3DS just like any other cart.

It's only emulation, so no cartridge slot unfortunately. The only third party DS that can play carts that I'm aware of is the DS ML. The ML isn't even a clone, it's an original model DS with a shell that's more like the DS Lite.

That's one of the most wild things about Etrian Odyssey games. It usually starts out in a forest and has almost fairy tale adventure vibes, but then deep in the dungeon there are horrors.

I love Legacy of the Wizard on NES, and it was my first Metroidvania. As a kid I didn't like how long the passwords were, but now I can screenshot them, take a photo, or sometimes save a state from the password screen.

It's one of my favorite Shinobi games, and there are so many variations of it, mostly with the Spiderman/Batman bosses. That stuff is interesting to me, especially since you could never get away with stuff like that now.

It feels like we're in a golden age of DS/3DS systems. There are a lot of people getting into the DS for the first time which is great to see, and we got aftermarket systems like the RGDS and Thor with more on the way. It's an exciting time for handhelds.

I played through it for the first time last year, and that's exactly what makes it good imo. They also put in sections where you have to run or have to wall jump to ensure that you learn the mechanics. It's a game about exploration and secrets after all.

I agree, and I think this rhetoric gets used when players are accustomed to decades of QOL improvements, then go back to a game that didn't have them. It's like playing a modern Monster Hunter game, then going back to play the early ones. They are rougher, but still very playable.

For at least a decade we've been using the rubber coated pampered chef mitts because that's what my wife had in her kitchen and they work great. I had similar rubber ones in my apartment before that and I honestly can't remember the last time I used a cloth oven mitt.

To me this is still one of the most intense boss fights in Metal Slug X. There is a constant sense of urgency as you juggle shooting down at it, while climbing as fast as possible so it doesn't eat you along with the tower. It also shoots missiles to dodge and has a massive laser blast.

The categories themselves are subjective, so I am just using how I would look for them in my head. There is one shelf of Gameboy/Gameboy style handhelds, but there is another shelf of very small handhelds. Tiny Gameboy style systems are on the little shelf. For better or worse this is my system.
