Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 24/09/2026My favorite niche media bit at the moment is the ongoing beef surrounding the Big Picture pod’s third chair 000
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Putting “reddit” at the end of your google search isn’t enough anymore. Now you have to be careful trusting any Reddit answers from the last year or so when grifters realized that AIs are scraping forums for answers and started putting bs in there 000
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I’m confused by the number of people calling out “-maxing” as incel language when they should really be calling out “mogging”. Maxing comes from “minmaxing”, an old gaming term. Mogging comes from “AMOG” or “alpha male of the group”, an incel forum term. 000

Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Every AI flyer and menu is a vomit of information with no guide for where your eye is supposed to go. They look helpful until you actually try to read one 000
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 15/08/2026I still have a ton of doubts that the MCU can actually do a good adaptation of x-men but the cast so far and the Spider-Man movie have me leaning hopeful 000

Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Having to take a car everywhere is one of the most insidious ways Americans are trained to accept a level of casual violence and danger in their lives. Heavy pieces of machinery that are deadly if they hit you. (I had to drive to my nephew’s soccer game in the middle of nowhere yesterday) 000
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 02/08/2026I can see why Tom Holland has been talking about how he’s going to pass the Spider-Man mantle on at some point because after Brand New Day it feels like he should just play it forever 010
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 28/07/2026It’s more important than ever to understand the camera when watching videos. Who is holding it? Does the person being recorded know the camera is there? Why is the shot framed like that? You might not like meta glasses but you’ve probably liked a video shot on them already. Have to stay critical 000
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Doomsday trailer looks kinda bad but at least they let Mystique wear clothes now 000
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 20/07/2026I don’t know where along the way people got convinced that Christopher Nolan doesn’t use CGI but he absolutely does and to great effect. He captures a lot in camera too but every single one of his big, most celebrated hits has used CGI. CGI is not inherently bad 010
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Saw The Invite yesterday (highly recommend!) and seeing The Odyssey tomorrow. Helluva week at the cinema 020

Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 14/07/2026What do we call that sound that hybrids and EVs make? It’s not an engine noise obviously so idling doesn’t feel right. It almost sounds like wheels on rail like a train but it’s too consistent 1110

Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 01/07/2026Ok I fear Pelinka may have taken Luka too literally when he said he wanted shooters and a good center because the defense is about to be a mess this season. Mamu, Grimes, Sexton… these are all offensive players with limited defense. Carr is suddenly really important as a two-way player 100
Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 01/07/2026The price was way too steep (Who gives away multiple unprotected picks these days?), but the Lakers got their center. A top three of Luka, Reaves, and Kessler is a championship core though, esp in this era of high variance 000

Nick @slownick.bsky.social · 25/06/2026I don’t know who said it first but I keep coming back to this very basic response to AI-generated writing: “Why would I read something you couldn’t be bothered to write?” And you can extend this to all AI slop.
