The mayor's office doesn't have direct authority over SPD, right? i.e. they can't *force* them to do anything. As the person in command, doesn't he have an obligation to give that safety statement and disregard any requests to the contrary?

The Seattle Times has chosen to ignore overwhelming written contemporaneous evidence and take a comment from a police chief as gospel in order to blame Mayor Katie Wilson for SPD's failure to put out any information after the Bite of Seattle shooting. Different day, same obsession.

After debacle that followed Bite of Seattle mass shooting, city must set a new course | Editorial
As the city begins its search for a new police chief, it must be held accountable for promised improvements in order to attract the best potential candidates.

Bluesky doesn’t have main characters we have main topics when the news is slow. “There’s a popular country song you probably have t heard.” If you don’t see cowboy hats whe ln you go outside that’s normal. It’s not your age. It’s not new media. It has nothing to do with anything.

If you have one, I recommend printing out the reset instructions and taping them to the inside of the water supply cabinet.

Mechanically, it has a big spring like a rat trap. It has to be reset after the sprinklers go off, otherwise water can’t get to your faucet. Ours wasn’t marked and the SFD wasn’t familiar with it. It was about a week till a plucky plumber figured it out.

We had something called a “diverter”. we have one supply line for both the sprinkler system and general use. The diverter is a big valve that divert all the water to the sprinkler system if the pressure in the sprinkler system drops. (E.g. it’s in use. )

They can also rupture if they freeze. My townhome has them installed outside over our little driveways. The neighbors ruptured during a deep freeze. Even though it was quickly repaired, our complex didn’t have water for a week because we didn’t understand how the supply worked.

I was shocked (though I shouldn't have been) to learn, upon listening to Tuesday's public safety committee meeting today, that SPD chief Sayles explicitly said former chief Barnes delayed the Bite of Seattle press conference to be briefed, given that every headline said it was Mayor Wilson.

I watched the spd report, and they're not faithfully characterized what was said. The report itself says that Davis had too much on his plate and was obstructed by chief Barnes. Davis implied that Surratt asked him to hold during a rambling excuse as to why he didn't push for an earlier release.

If it's not too stale, AC Davis's response to Kettle today seems at odds with the messages released by the mayor's office and spd. I just watched the meeting and I'd be interested in your take.

slogula.bsky.social @slogula.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
In the released texts, Davis doesn't express any concerns about speaking to the press. The first suggestion that SPD wait on the mayor is at 9:36pm when Alison Holcomb texts AC Davis "Is SPD doing a media availability tonight? If so, Mayor needs to be there." It would be good to get some clarity.

slogula.bsky.social @slogula.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
AC Davis's statements about being asked to delay for the mayor at 7:30p are strikingly incongruous with the messages released from both SPD and the Mayor's office. When asked by CM Kettle if he pressed ahead for the public safety statement, Davis replied "No".

Pretending in the fake conflict is a convenient way to hide from their own bigotry while acting smugly high-minded about it. “Crazy how your politics are is serving your emotional needs, bro. And you call it ‘utilitarianism’?”

slogula.bsky.social @slogula.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
You know, it’s really obvious when someone’s politics is just a means to fill an emotional hole. Shitting on people you hate, and imagining it as a necessity of the Greater Good. You get to feel smart and Noble, and hide from your bigotry, because you’re too much of a coward to face what you are.

No longer confidence in the rules the road you find yourself hesitating, equivocating, sinking inward on a tide of anxiety, tumultuous thoughts crowding out the awareness of your surroundings. How long have you been here?

Seattle drivers aren’t born they’re made. Immersed in an environment of collective incompetence, you’ll find yourself slowly yet inexorably alienated from your own knowledge of good driving, and in a process akin to gaslighting, you yourself may succumb to the ambient vehicular anomie.

Some cheaper usb-c connectors only work in one orientation, which I find quite annoying. Flipping the connector can fix that.

I’m confused by the idea that spiraling is an emergent behavior of the llm. Training data had to include mysticism, along with proselytizing exchanges. With that, the LLM can construct satisfactory responses to people looking for that sort of thing. Seems like it’s functioning as designed?

I felt this way about the book. Boss lady has this diatribe about the everlasting misery of all people before the miracle of industrialization. Just dumb, silly, out-of-character exposition. Pretty much the exact politics you would expect from an American who “isn’t political.”

Book’s about her poly marriage. Apparently, she paints a picture of an abusive lying partner, but she seems blind to that. Those I’ve known who knew her husband paint the same picture. Poly isn’t the problem, but hacks are making it out to be. I feel sad for her.

Exactly right. That vinegar is what makes it a great ingredient in other dishes like hollandaise sauce or cream of whatever soup. Other hot sauces don’t have the acidity to pull that off.
