There have been lots of Germans (oh yes, lots), Austrians, Hungarians, Poles, French, Greeks, etc in the Philippines since Spanish colonial rule, by the way. Among Philippine elite families, you had those who preferred visiting France and those who preferred Germany.

I dunno, I just find this interesting. It’s like Koreans in the Philippines. They were hidden for a few decades, then BOOM, nobody had realised there were Koreans everywhere in the Philippines. Like the Slavs, Germans, and Balts, they were hiding in rural areas and speaking the local languages.

It's comparable, I'd say to the ancient Greek rhesis or a highly elevated recitation one makes in Chinese opera. And it's very formulaic in Philippine scriptwriting, where an injustice or a wrong automatically triggers a dramatic declaration or assertion of self from the person wronged or hurt.
