i used to wear this whole album on the mile-long walk to campus my first year in the basement apartment in yonkers where my "room" was just an alcove with no door. thus began my lifelong obsession with (most) things sufjan.

ten years in and i’ve never really found my true kdramas tribe so I never have anyone to geek out with over my crushes. that being said: so ji sub still fine. 🔥

i loved the first act. 2nd and 3rd were more of a challenge. but overall, thought it was beautifully performed. beautifully shot. interesting, original, eccentric, tragic.

just finished With Love, From Harlem by ReShonda Tate. now i’ve started A Harlem Wedding by Tiffany L. Warren. really loving this one so far.

the way meg ryan used to push her nose up in the air when a character was self-satisifed (and most of her characters were self-satisfied) was so fun. i searched for photographic evidence but it was harder to find than i thought. this is essentially it, though.

there hasn’t been a single day since February 8 when this hasn’t run through my head at least once. he really was not there to play with us.

apparently this has been out since october. it’s no Freudian (it shouldn’t be. it can’t be.) but it’s really lovely. he’s an outstanding writer and a very eccentric, introspective character.

hi, so this is an insane picture. it’s always been an insane picture. we’re lucky to have access to it. we actually do not deserve it? but like… put it in humanity’s time capsule. it’s evidence of what the best of us are capable of looking like. in this dissertation defense, i—

I thought I was starting to feel slightly more resolved to the idea of D’Angelo moving on. Then Wynonna Judd covered “One Mo Gin” and I’m back at square one.

i’d been waiting for this one. it did not disappoint. i’ve loved jessie redmond fauset since i first read plum bun in college, so this was right up my alley. i will say it suffered from a device that keeps me away from historical fiction: the “name-dropping.” but i get that it was necessary here.

stacia l. brown @slb79.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

i’m glad this one is over. if you can accept the premise, you can accept the plot, i guess. but it’s a lot to ask. this felt long and soapy.

this probably shouldn’t be happening. i can’t see the ticket sales being worth the effort at this point. but i am obsessed with this look on her. it’s the first time i’ve liked the platinum blonde.

130

stacia l. brown @slb79.bsky.social · 01/02/2025

i don’t usually read mysteries so i don’t know if most of them are like this one but the main character’s decisions bothered me so much & the point being made about Black women being criminalized at higher rates than white women who’ve committed crimes fell flat within the context of this plot.

110

stacia l. brown @slb79.bsky.social · 29/01/2025

this was well-written but overlong. tedious plot. had it not been for sheila atim and arinze kene, who voiced the audiobook, i may not have followed through on it.
