Toying with the idea of dynamically switching appviews on upstream errors. (I guess it sometimes is a timeout or another error, so not a very reliable trigger) Als you lose access to data stored on the appview, like bookmarks, drafts and few other things.

I see that the Bluesky app now automatically numbers posts in a thread in the view. I will implement that too in the next release. There would be no need for putting numbers in the posts themselves anymore when you write the thread.

I don't know how this download works. It's mysterious to me. Anyway, I could reproduce the problem on an Android 17 emulator. Bundling the font file with the app makes the bug disappear.

Yup. The emoji in front of "following" breaks the layout. Will be fixed in the next release.

bundle the font as a ttf file (remember that emoji bug on Pixel with Android 15? I did the same workaround then) I guess that on GrapheneOS the font download process downloads a different version of the font. Emoji are a never ending nightmare. 🧵2/2

Lucky you! The problem is with the NotoColorEmoji font that Skywalker downloads at startup if it is not installed yet. I read that Google did major redesigned of the font for Android 17. I think there is a bug in the render engine of Qt/QML. It seems I can work around it when I statically 🧵1/2

There is an issue with Android 17 that cause excessive veritcal margins to be rendered around some emoji. This causes text layout to be messed up. I will get a fix for this in the next Skywalker release.

Yes! Bsky links in posts should be intercepted automatically (famous last words) Bsky links elsewhere can be intercepted but you have to enable it in the Android settings of the app. Here is what those settings look like on my Samsung phone Credits to @nowrench.com for this feature.

I see. The media view does not play nice with alt-text. Clicking anywhere on the post opens the post in full view swipe mode (from there you van swipe up/down through the posts, TikTok style) Need to improve that.

If you want to try a different AppView, you can configure it in Advanced Settings. By default the field for AppView service is empty, i.e. your PDS will forward requests to your AppView. The grey text is an example showing what the service string looks like: 🧵1/3
