Ah yes, women exist solely as objects to be used in the pursuit of making men better

a substantial portion of the sympathy toward geller comes from people who seem, genuinely, to believe that his videos themselves constitute good actions he’s performed. like he’s materially made the world a better place by crying over mario galaxy. thats his redemption. the quiet sadness of mario.

My emotional distress belongs to me. We need to stop policing emotional responses and start examining what makes our bodyminds more vulnerable and wounded.

Minorities react by expressing their pain, and the pain is invalidated as irrational, hysterical, absurd, etc., rather than asking where that pain comes from.

SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It's also a way to invalidate the experiences of minorities, whose arguments often stem from their deeply personal, lived experiences. Being "impartial" is held up as this bastion of logic and reason, at the same time that every perspective except a very specific privileged one is ignored.

There's this deeply misogynistic thread in politics and culture at large where debates and discussions are lost and won based on who got emotional the most. If you get upset, angry, cries, etc., it's seen as weakness and a failure of one's argument. Charlie Kirk et al are great at exploiting that.

Celebrities are not your friends! They aren't even your acquaintances. Just because they do X thing you like does not mean they are your best bud. People form these parasocial relationships so easily and they let their made-up feelings for these complete strangers color their behavior.

This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives

Do I like to date myself? Nah, every person is different. I'm just...drawn to certain commonalities. But the best relationship I've ever been in (and my current one) also involves the other person nurturing and protecting me too? Idk, I'm a mess lolol

SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I've always dated disaster girls because I am a disaster girl myself, and it activates this like, super protective, nurturing part of my brain. I've just always been that way. My friends would even joke/tease me about it. But this fic explains it so well. Of course I'd be drawn to girls like that.

Anyway, a recurring thru-line is that Luz is drawn to Willow and Amity because she sees herself in them, and she wants to give people the kindness she never got when she was younger. And I feel so seen/called out like dang

SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
There's mega traumatized Luz learning to love herself, Luz and Willow being cute and gay together, polyamory with Amity, an asexual sex-repulsed Boscha redemption arc, and vengeful rebel Gus. Also, Amity is autistic and survived ABA at the hands of her mothe and anfjwbds I love all of them so much!!

I'm currently halfway through The Owl House fic, "Your Touch | Freedom To Be Me", an AU where Season 1 and 2 happened without Luz, The Day of Unity failed, and now she's arrived as a runaway, homeless trans girl. It's so freaking good.https://archiveofourown.org/works/55091485/chapters/139679884

I think what I resent the most is that all of us, especially the women who worked with him, were a part of his rehabilitation (at least image-wise) without us ever getting to choose if that was something we wanted to participate in. He didn't let us or his audience make a choice. How ironic.

“It was a long time ago” “it was a one time thing” “it’s clear he feels remorse” “it’s not worth ruining his whole life over something like this” “what if what he did wasn’t even that bad” “people deserve second chances” these are the same defenses every victim hears about their abuser. every time

Personally I consider it to be a fate worse than death. When I was 13 and being abused I would have gladly chosen being dead over being abused. It's something I wouldn't wish on anyone, not even my worst enemy. It is that horrible, that vile an act to have to go through.

I'm 36 and I still get nightmares about when I was 10! I'm 36 and I still struggle with intimacy and loving myself and others. This shit damages people for a long, long time. It's not like you eat a burger and the next day you shit it out. It stays with you!

So much of the response to Jacob Geller reveals just how little people actually understand the severity of sexual violence. People see it as "just a mistake" when no, it's something that can destroy a person and affect them for the rest of their lives.

SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
In the minds of these apologists, whether they confess to the belief or not, they think the rapists did nothing wrong, because they only damaged an object. Something less than human. The real crime is how these men, these *people*, are being persecuted.

Even when we try to invoke empathy from others, the woman is expressed as an object in relationship to others: mother, daughter, sister, cousin, niece, and so on. The man is simply a man.
100
SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The victim is rendered abstract. She is a concept, a moldable object that can be manipulated, used and disposed of for whatever purpose men desire; the man is a person.
100
SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
It's always, "what about the man?", not, "what about the woman?"

SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Brett Kavanaugh cries, and suddenly he is the victim. Seven men rape a woman, and the conversation focuses on their futures, their infantlized boyhood, and their promising careers. It's so utterly, disgustingly backwards.

When men suffer consequences for their actions, their pain takes center stage and becomes the focal point, because the pain of a man matters more than the pain of a woman.

The disproportionate concern with “rehabilitating” abusers and rapists (nearly always code for maintaining their position and recovering their social status) is actually part of the problem.

Now, more than ever, piracy is a moral good. When we own nothing, these corporations control every image, every sound bite, and every moment that passes through our screens. By taking back ownership, we also take back control.

True liberation will not come from scrolling through an endless page of Netflix recommendations. It comes from someone showing you a perspective you never even knew existed, something you never realized was even possible.

There are TV shows and movies that aren't on Netflix. There's music that is not and will never be on Spotify. There are books that will never be on Kindle Unlimited. You owe it to yourself to seek out these experiences! You'll become a better person for having done it.

Real discovery happens through effort. I still remember being eighteen and finding new music through forums, recommendations from friends, a CD at the library, and thrift stores. Many of these artists I would never have experienced if I put all my faith in an opaque Spotify algorithm.

These services may seem like they have an enormous catalogue which covers every conceivable viewpoint, belief, and political position, but the real politics happen in the things they do not and would not ever host.

The time you expend on a Skydance approved documentary or progressive TV show is time that you are not spending fighting for the abolition of Skydance. It's energy redirected into maintaining the status quo.

The giant corpo will entertain a few liberal ideas, but they will never allow something that actually radicalizes their captive audience. The politics of these enclosed spaces will always fall into a range which is considered acceptable and safe for the continued rule of capital and corporations.

SkyHoglet @skyhoglet.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
...but these progressive, seemingly radical and pro social ideas are actually being neutered. Activism is reduced to a documentary. Politics are reduced to individual stories and actions, rather than community organizing and systemic change.

You might see 13th, a documentary about the way Black and Brown people are funneled into the prison system and modern day slavery. You might see a movie that talks about sexual violence. You might see a TV series that focuses on prejudice in the ER...

These large companies create, curate, and funnel people into specific cultural and political environments in subtle ways. What looks like a massive library of Alexandria on Netflix, for example, is actually a walled garden with precisely calibrated levers of control.

With the merger of Warner Bros Discovery and Paramount into Skydance, I think more than ever we should consider decentralizing our media consumption.

"What to do about Jacob Geller" I dunno, move on? A single person's work is not so integral and sacred that we need to wring our hands about what to do with it. There are a lot of people whose work you could be reading or listening to. Stop making icons out of random dudes. is that so hard
