MA has a historic number of ballot questions. Here's a handy guide for the 9 statewide ballot questions this year.
✅VOTE YES ON 1 to expand the public records law to cover the Governor and the Legislature. We’re the only state in the country that doesn’t do that already. Let the sunlight in.

✅VOTE YES ON 2 to enable public defenders to collectively bargain. Every worker deserves to have a union, and public defenders, who are often overworked and underpaid, should be no exception.

❌VOTE NO ON 3 to prevent private equity billionaires from rigging our election system in their favor. Top-two primaries empower corporate PACs and self-funders, disadvantage grassroots candidates, and turn MAGA voters into election kingmakers.

✅VOTE YES ON 4 to enable voters to register to vote or update their registration on Election Day. No eligible voter should be turned away due to a clerical error, and this reform is one of the most proven ways to increase voter turnout.

❌VOTE NO ON 5 to protect our state’s ability to invest in health care, transportation, and public education. The rich would get millions in tax rebates, while the rest of us suffer from underfunded public services.

⚪VOTE how you want on 6. Question 6 fell shy of our endorsement threshold: our members valued land and water conservation, but were worried about the dedication of existing funds as opposed to new ones.

✅VOTE YES on 7 to enable more starter homes across the Commonwealth. We have a housing crisis, and large lot size requirements mean fewer homes are able to be built.

❌VOTE NO on 8 to protect our state’s cannabis laws. We said NO to the war on drugs back in 2016, and we shouldn’t turn back time and destroy local economies.

✅VOTE YES ON 9 to protect our state’s landmark gun safety law, which cracked down on ghost guns, banned machine gun conversion devices, and strengthened gun violence data collection.

Gorgeous day today for Open Streets on Merrimack Street in downtown Lowell, MA. Great to see so many people out enjoying fun activities, shopping, music and dance performances, a community art project, and more. Need more of this!

I biked to downtown Lowell today. There was an anime cosplay social going on at Cafe Eclipse, so I put on my Totoro kigurumi and got an anime style portrait! After I biked down (in costume) to Open Streets Lowell and walked around a bit before heading home.

Quebec trip recap from day 4! We explored the Montreal underground and went to a fancy camera store, but they didn't have the camera my wife was looking for. I adventures solo in the afternoon and went to Fairmount Bagels, and my wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Lola Rosa!

Just made it home from our anniversary trip to Montreal and Quebec City! I tried to take a break from posting while on vacation but I'll do a recap over the next few days. Today, we came back through Vermont and New Hampshire, and it was amazing to see the colors of the leaves in the mountains.

Recently I read a bunch of MA state rep interviews about an effort to updating restrictive zoning to allow duplexes by right. Most of them shut it down, saying it 'takes away' the chance for younger people to buy single family homes. But current policy has already done that.

Did a bike ride this morning, after getting my hair cut and before going to my cousin's wedding in Rockport. Rode up to the softball fields, around the Williamsburg condos in north Chelmsford, and up around freeman lake. Also, got some free local corn from a farm stand by the community garden. Yay!

I hope people read this. This includes a great breakdown of the proposed legislation in Massachusetts which includes guard rails for data use and collection, and importantly limits the use of information collected by traffic cameras for anything but enforcement.

While I was out I also rode around the giant data center (the Markley Monolith) being built in back central, and... it's ugly. It's got an ungodly amount of diesel generators. Huge black fences and surveillance cameras around it. And it looks like they're trying to get permits to expand more.

14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

I downloaded strava today. Wanted something to track my walks and bike rides and sync it to something like wandrer.earth to show where I have and haven't been. I kinda hate it? It feels steeped in personal bests, grindset culture, and fitness purity. I just want to ride on my ebike and walk places.

I could swear I made this Tactics meme before but I couldn't find it, so I made it again
Scene from the Simpsons where a diner waitress is saying "I hate it when the waffles stick together," except she's holding a ring of Tactics Ogre characters saying "I hate it when the ogres clinging together."Same scene; screenshot of the cook saying "sticking together is what good waffles do," but it's modified to say "Clinging together is what tactics ogres do." This is a reference to the video game "Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together."

ACLU of Massachusetts had a good article recently making the distinction between speed cameras/red light cameras and automated license plate readers like Flock, so it's good to see some nuance out there www.aclum.org/news/were-pr...

We’re privacy hawks. Here’s why we’re alarmed by license plate readers, and not necessarily by speed cameras - ACLU of Massachusetts
When properly regulated, speed cameras don't pose the same threats to privacy as license-plate-reader surveillance
