#SleepNoMore is a goofier supernatural horror film than expected, complete with a character having regenerating limbs with no real explanation. Plenty of gore though. #tadff

While I’m usually able to keep my faith outside of the films I’ve seen, there have been a few exceptions and The Devil’s was most definitely one of them. I seriously thought I sinned by seeing the film and I prayed when I got home. So yeah, I won’t be watching the restoration.

Admittedly, I’m not super devout these days, but Catholicism was a major part of my upbringing (especially as an Irish-Italian) and I still have a strong faith, even if I don’t regularly go to church.

I really can’t wait until the hype around the restoration of #TheDevils dies down. I saw the film for the first and only time in 2014 on 35mm with a Guillermo del Toro masterclass. I enjoyed the talk, but the film is the only I’ve seen to seriously affect me as a Catholic.

#TurnItUp is indie rock cosmic horror-comedy with a lot of splitting heads and Twin Peaks references. #tadff

#Species uses its grotesque body-horror as a metaphor for stress at the workplace, but apart from the gore, the film feels quite soulless and lacking any real substance (pun intended). #TADFF

#5MoreMinutes is a time loop horror-comedy that’s as horrifying as it is hilarious (and will probably ruin Roxette for many viewers). #tadff #torontoafterdark

#Whalefall might have some gross whale-stomach moments and a harrowing fight with a squid, but it’s ultimately an almost ethereal film about a young man reconciling his relationship with his estranged father. #tadff

#YouCanSeeEverything is practically a shoe-in for the Best Documentary Oscar (and might even get a Best Picture nomination). The film transcends the documentary medium in ways that I cannot say.

#VHSMixtape has two great segments with Renee Zhan’s Dance, Dance, Dance Dance - Featuring work from Jim Henson's Creature Shop - and RZA’s ultra-gory closer Death Tone. However, the GWAR wrap segments and music video interludes really hurt the anthology’s pacing.

#TheSocialReckoning will probably do nothing to stop the world’s Facebook addiction, but is generally well-acted and would probably be better received if it wasn’t for the fact that Aaron Sorkin as a director is no David Fincher.

#OtherMommy is a film that I initially feared peaked during its pre credit sequence, i.e. the scene from the first trailer, but director Rob Savage delivers a demonic supernatural horror film that’s a mashup of everything from The Grudge to IT to Insidious.

After seeing it twice in a row (minus 15 minutes), #Digger is surprisingly meta environmental satire that, without revealing too much, is like Dr. Strangelove if it was a de facto sequel to Birdman. The larger-than-life IMAX presentation is the ONLY recommended way to watch.

Also, I can confirm that Cineplex at least didn’t have the PSA Chris Hansen bought to play before the film (at least I think I didn’t, since I was a few minutes late and missed some of the pre-trailer ads)

#Primetime features many uncomfortable moments and solid performances by Robert Pattinson and Skyler Gisondo, but is ultimately quite ambiguous about the true impact of Chris Hanson and To Catch a Predator (for the record, I watched LOST).

#ForgottenIsland is a wonderful film from Dreamworks that combines multiple animation styles, has a soundtrack of 1980s music (with some 1990s hip-hop) and a plot that essentially combines Filipino folklore with The Hangover.
