skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 08/06/2026There was some incredible chalk artwork out front that was unfortunately damaged by the rain during our stay. I guess all good things must come to an end, art cannot be contemporary forever. 000

skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 08/06/2026These oil paintings are just insane. Every one looks like a photo. I read into how railroads changed indigenous America so drastically due to the easy access they provided to the west, kind of sad. I also caught Sadie picking her nose here. #ConArtInSitu 000

skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 20/05/20268) I have always found that history has always been difficult for me to get excited about, especially in school. skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 20/05/20266) @themaskedman28.bsky.social brought up a great point that "seat" is an even bigger umbrella term. So all stools are chairs, and all chairs are seats, but not all seats are chairs, and not all chairs are stools. A seat can be wherever you place your bottom. #ConArtInSitu 210

skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 11/05/202614. The west likes to depict Africa as impoverished, weak, and starved. In reality, they just have different expectations and values for what makes a successful life and society. We try and impose our values on societies that have thrived much longer than us by their own means. #ConArtInSitu 100
skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 11/05/202613. My biggest takeaway from the African art exhibit is how narrow the western perception of Africa is. They are a region built on tradition, religion, and community. Traditionally, they live more simple lives, building communities that utilize everyone’s skills and talents. #ConArtInSitu 100

skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 11/05/20269. The plaque for these masks talks about how these masks were recognized in the west in the 1900s for their beauty, but their true meaning from the Punu was completely ignored. It’s really a metaphor for colonization, as the west takes what they like and leaves out what they don’t. #ConArtInSitu 100
skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 11/05/20268. These masks were worn by male dancers of the Punu. They were said to represent the female beauty and the scars on the forehead were given to women to “enhance their beauty”. #ConArtInSitu 100

skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 11/05/20265. Now in the African art exhibit. Similar to the Asian art, I believe this is here to show how European and American art takes inspiration from African art, and how many pivotal findings come from them. #ConArtInSitu 100

Much more left up to interpretation. #ConArtInSitu 100
skete-davidson.bsky.social @skete-davidson.bsky.social · 11/05/20263. This piece tackles the concept of identity in a fascinating way. The bodies are faceless and genderless, composed of hundreds of eyes, maybe noting the idea of constant public judgement and perception. The break between the two represents when the artist moved from Haiti to the US. #ConArtInSitu 100
