Compressing the cover itself got the two tabs (that I couldn't otherwise reach) out of their detents and I could ease it out. No obvious loose screws! Nothing otherwise seems loose. I suspect something deep inside is bent, where I can't get to it. Now hubs is nerdsniped, and is looking at it too 😅
The cover is in a clamp, compressing it so that it's slightly deformed. In front lies a pair of pliers, the innards of the toothbrush handle, and the end cap of the cover. My hand is holding up the handle innards. It looks very industrial-futuristic with rubber and metal and coils within.

Sara Joy ☠️ @sjoy.lol · 09/08/2026
After some effort with a machine screw, I got it off! I can't see any easy tabs I could compress to get the rest out though, and it's not wanting to come easy...

Reposting to add ALT text and to salute the use of Weeley for Bin HQ, and the pie chart! "We have the votes to consume Reform" is followed by the chart where all other votes (31.6%) plus did-not-votes (41.3%) are the shape of Pacman at 72.9% of the pie. It's ready to chomp the 27.1% Reform wedge!
COUNT BINFACE for CLACTON

MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT!

MAKE 13TH AUGUST BIN DAY!

Election Communication: Count Binface, Count Binface Party, ClactonCLACTON, YOU HAVE A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY!

Hello. I am Count Binface, your friendly neighbourhood intergalactic space warrior, and I'm delighted to be the main challenger to be your next MP.

Vote for me and I promise to put Clacton on the star map in a way that will live forever. And not just Clacton but also Frinton, Kirby Cross. Jaywick, Walton-on-the-Naze and of course Weeley, home of my new Bin HQ. Join forces with me and together we'll send Westminster a message they'll never forget.

I might be from another galaxy but I will be a local champion for you, standing up for the needs and interests of all constituents and making your voices heard like never before. It would be the honour of my life to -conquer- represent you.

WHY VOTE FOR ME?

This by-election is a farce and should never have been called. If the current MP wins, there could be ANOTHER by-election here soon, because of a parliamentary investigation. Labour, the Conservatives, the Lib Dems and Greens think this is so likely, they're not bothering to take part in this one.

Vote for me and there won't be another by-election, which means together we'll have saved taxpayers an estimated £350,000 before I even start work. Lovely stuff.

You can always vote for a 'normal' party next time. This is a free hit. It's your chance to do something different, and give the establishment something they've never seen before.

AND I HAVE THE BEST MANIFESTO IN THE BUSINESS:

- I will boost the region's economy, prestige and fame.
- I will cut your taxes, and raise them for everyone else.
- Bus fares to be capped at £1.99 and 99 Flakes to cost no more than 99p.
- I promise to spend more time in Clacton-on-Sea than Washington DC.
- I will build at least one affordable house.
- Parliament to be relocated to my new Bin HQ in Weeley, while the Palace of Westminster is restored.
- Regeneration of Walton Pier to make it just as great as Clacton Pier.
- More jobs, doctors, and other things that humans vote for.

Proof that LEGO is a fluid, and should be treated like a mass noun (some Lego, a box of Lego) not a count noun (1 Lego, playing with Legos): (BTW happy 30th birthday @legolandwindsor.bsky.social!)
A large tap (or faucet, I guess) with a stream of Lego water spilling into a huge tub of Lego bricks. It is all built out of Lego.A very similar tap, this time outdoors, and the fluid is now striped in rainbow colours. At the bottom of the Lego 'water' is the beginning of a small stream of real water.

Panel 4:
Hobbes puts his hand to his mouth.
"I don't think I want to be here at the end of August."
Calvin is running again, looking at his watch.

And posting again to add the ALT text :) Best of luck today UK - whatever comes out of this by-election, it's going to be "interesting".
A political leaflet by Count Binface, whose picture also features - a person dressed in a grey super-hero type suit, with silver cape, and wearing a helmet which is in the shape of a large metal dustbin, with handles for ears, a big black square for the mouth and a blue futuristic looking slot for the eyes.

1. I will cut your taxes, and raise everyone else's.
2. All 99 Flake ice-creams to cost no more than 99p and Wigan Kebabs to be price-capped at £2.
3. Rephase the traffic lights on Liverpool Road to ease congestion.
4. Corners to be refereed properly in football.
5. People who use speakerphones on public transport to be conscripted.
6. Wifi on trains that works. Also trains that work.
7. The £6.6 million Ashton-in-Makerfield regeneration scheme to be regenerated.
8. Pensions to be double-locked, with an extra little chain on the side.
9. Cyclists who break the highway code to be forced to ride unicycles instead.

11. Free parking at the Gerard Centre to be increased to 3 hours.

14. Galloway Bakers' 'Full Monty Bin Lid' breakfast to be Britain's new national dish.
15. Tries in Rugby League to be increased from 4 to 5 points in line with inflation.
16. Ceefax to be brought back for the entire Greater Manchester area.
17. MPs to lose their subsidy for cheap food and drink in Parliament.
18. The hand-dryer in the gents' toilet at the Crown & Treaty pub, Uxbridge to be moved to a more sensible position.
19. Count Binface to be the UK's entrant at Eurovision 2027.
20. I stand by my past manifestos: croissants, Brexit, Trident, building at least one affordable house: I've got it all covered.

I came up with the term Inclusive Front to mean the band of people who care about the web's inclusivity. It's a play on words; we largely work on the front end, but I feel at times we're also like a political 'popular front' against a poorly built web that excludes people. I've had stickers made!
A packet of holographic stickers on sheets from Sticker App.

Each sticker has the text:

Arnaud Bertrand @RnaudBertrand

In a normal world, this should be an immense scandal in Europe.

Le Monde has a long article describing the hellish life of Nicolas Guillou, a French judge at the ICC in The Hague, due to U.S. sanctions punishing him for authorizing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes in Gaza.

Guillou's daily existence has been transformed into a Kafkaesque nightmare. He cannot: open or maintain accounts with Google, Amazon, Apple, or any US company; make hotel reservations (Expedia canceled his booking in France hours after he made it); conduct online commerce, since he can't know if the packaging is American; use any major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex are all American); access normal banking services, even with non-American banks, as banks worldwide close sanctioned accounts; conduct virtually any financial transaction.

He describes it as being "economically banned across most of the planet," including in his own country, France, and where he works, the Netherlands.

That's the real shocking aspect of this: the Americans are:

- punishing a European citizen
- for doing his job in Europe
- applying laws Europe officially supports
- at an institution based in Europe
- that Europe helped create and fund

and Europe is not only doing essentially nothing to protect him, they're actively enforcing America's sanctions against their own citizen - European banks closing his accounts, European companies refusing him service, European institutions standing by while Washington destroys a European judge's life on European soil.

Again, in a normal world, European leaders and citizens should be absolutely outraged about this. But we've so normalized the hollowing out of European sovereignty that the sight of a European citizen being economically executed on European soil for upholding European law is treated, at best, as an unfortunate technical complication in transatlantic

I drew a thing. A lot of the choices made in this don't have any profound meaning, I think I left a lot of stuff out - and both the sizing and groupings are a little slapdash. But I think it gets a general gist across of how I feel about the internet nowadays.
A pencil drawing of the 2025 internet by me.

A big "krAIken" is suckering itself to all the parts of the internet, shown inside 9 bubble letters that spell out "oligopoly". Tendrils further connect companies across several parts.

The social media part is all cracked up. Company and service names are all over the letters, lots of -ism and -phobia and other emotive words are written between them. There is an app planet with API rockets flying to and from it.

The Web part looks blackened, unwell, and is melting. The drips are falling down into puddles on some kind of planet surface. This is the personal web - from it grow flowers and fungi.

Peering over the planet edge is a character with the words "Populist authoritarian - so much... So manipulatable..."
