Group 3/4 medulloblastoma may have epigenetic causes. New work from the Northcott lab describes chromatin changes in these tumors and identified KDM2B as important for histone modifications, gene expression, and survival of medulloblastoma tumor cells. tinyurl.com/v5r42wrh

Laboratory comes from the Latin word elaborare, meaning “to work out [a problem].” What better way for a lab group to build teamwork than to work out problems together? The Northcott group put that idea into practice by tackling escape rooms during a recent team-building event.

Why are in-person conferences so important for science? Dr. Taylor Matte, a postdoc in the Baker lab, reflected on his trip to ISPNO, a pediatric neuro oncology conference held every 2 years. “Hearing perspectives outside of St. Jude was invaluable."

At ISPNO 2026, postdoc Dr. Tuyu Zheng presented "A platform to interrogate tumor-neuronal relationships in genetic models of brain cancer". Her research combines in utero electroporation with monosynaptic rabies tracing to describe neuronal circuits in a native, tumor-bearing brain. Congratulations!

The proteosome fine-tunes protein levels; defects in targeted degradation cause disease, such as mutations in KBTBD4 driving medulloblastoma. Investigators at UW, Harvard, and St. Jude identified these mutations create interactions with new protein targets to aberrantly degrade them.
